I've been reading these SPIDER RIGGING threads lately and have a question. How are ya'll hooking the minnows. It would seem like through the nose. I also am wondering what the rig is set up like. Anyone have any pictures? Would a Drop Shot type rig suspended work for this style of fishing? What about the gold aberdeen crappie hooks, will they work? Thanks for any advise on this.

You hook them through the lips. The rig involves a three ways swivle and two hooks of your choice and a 3/4 oz. egg sinker. First you cut off a 2-3 foot part of yuour main line nand tie on the 3-way and them take the end that you cut off and cut two pieces onn e that is about a foot long and another that is about two feet long. Tie the one that is two feet long to the part of the 3-way that goes sraight down and then tie the one foot piece to the part of the 3-way that goes to the side. As for the weight you slide it up the 2 foot piece of line about 6 inches from the 3-way and then just run the line back through the sinker about 4-6 times until it is pegged. Then the only thing left to do is take your hook and tie them to the loose ends. The hook on the bottom should be about 1 foot away from the 3/4 weight.
But if you are juust starting out you should only just one hook until you get better at it. In that case just cut of the 3-way and put a regular swivle with a 1-2 foot leader and then the hook.

Thanks Slab1105, This system went down right after I posted and I just fixed it. When I figure out a homemade rod holding bracket for my two man boat I'm gonna try it. Is it mostly a winter time technique?

No you can use it every time of the year and it is very prodictive. If you feel like spending a little money go to www.beereadys.com and they have some of the best rod holders i have ever used. For one rod holder $10, for two $20 and so one all they way up to $50. You can mount them directly to your boat or you can by a riser that is 18" tall and is perfec for spider rigging. I will tell you how i made my first spidder rigging rod holder thought. I got a cinder block, a bag of concrete, two really long galvinized bolts with two walsher each and a nut, a 3 foot piece of 1" thin wall PVC, and a 10' piece of 2*4. What you do is cut a piece of the 2*4 that will go on the top of your cyinder block with about two extra inches on each side. Drill two holes in the 2*4 one in each hole of the cinder block. Fill the cinder block up with the mixed concrete all the way up to the top. Then you take your two bolts and put the throught the two drilled holes with one walsher one each side of the wood and screw you nut on wit about 1/4-1/2 inch out of the nut. Then take the side of the wood with the most part of the bolt exposd and put it into the concrete. This is what is going to hold you rod holder down. Let it dry over night. Make sure that they bolts are long enought to go about half way down the cinder bolks after it is run throught the wood i used a 6 or 7 inch bolt.
After that has dried cut two pieces of wood that are the exact same about 18-20 inches long just depending how far the bow of your boat is off the water. After you cut the pieces screw one on each side of the piece of wood that is conected to the cinder block. Drill holes before you put the screws in becasue if you don't it will crack the wood but make sure not to drill them so big that the srew just does in without screwing. After you have connected those boards cut one that will fit across the top and then screw it down. After you have got all of that in place the boards are going to need something to stablize the becasue they are going to be a little wobbley. I used a 5 foot piece of aluminum that has shaped into a 90degree angle. I cut it into about 1-1/2 inch pieces and drill hoes for it and scewed it where all of the pieces of wood made a 90 degree angle. Make sure that the aluminum is not to thin or it won't do a good job. Mine was a little bit thinner that 1/8 and it wokred good. After you have got all of that stablized you take your PVC pipe and cut 4 pieces about 6 inches long these are going to be the actuall rod holders. Place them even distances aprart and i used something i can't remember what it is called but i wasmade out of aluminum and was made to fit over a 1' pipe. It looked as if you had taken a flat sheet of metal and bent it to fit perfectly over that 1 inch piece of pipe with about an extre inch on each side where you could screw it down. Once again i am sure that this was very confusing and it you have any questions e-mail me at bigbolesballer11@aol.com and i will gove ytou my phone number b/c i am sure that this would be much easier explained on the phone. But i you have a bad back or knees this is not something for you b/c that cinder black with concrete in it weighs about 70 pounds and if you leave it in you boat you only have to move it once. Anyway hope that helps and let me know if you need help. God bless
