Took my kayak out to Lake Woodlands. It is a little lake about 200 acres. Had seen docks there and was all ready for some shootin', but found that the water under those docks is only about 2 feet.

Plan B: I went to the little overpass and the water at the bridge pilings was about 10 feet. So, I started jigging there. Ended up catching 40. They were little (7-10 inch range), but lots of fun. Threw them all back so they could go grow up.

Funny how over the course of a few hours I had to change the presentation a lot.

First the only way I could get them was by dropping straight down to the bottom and jigging up about 2 inches.

That stopped and I had to start casting past the pilings and jig it back by.

Then I had to start casting them against the pilings and they bit on the drop.

Lots of fun.

SHSU - No, it was the new bridge. You cross it from the mall and then can turn in to the boat launch.

Charlie - Would love to do that, but from what I read 10 feet is about as deep as this place gets. it is surrounded by a retaining wall. I read that TPWD stocked it with bass, cats, and crappie but I am not sure how long ago and how old the place is. There is hardly any really cover. Tne bottom is basically just mud.

Hey DJ,

I finally had to watch the line when the jigs were falling. I see what you were telling me about that.

Also, thanks for the easy tip about super glue. I caught 23 on one and 17 on the other.

Had a BILL moment too. I got a snag and broke off. Then retied and got the same dang one and broke again!

Lake Woodlands is nearly 20 years old now. I grew up in The Woodlands and went to the "bottom of the lake festival" that they had before they filled it up. It was stocked when it was filled, so there should be some really nice fish in there by now. I caught some very nice LMB bank fishing about 10 years ago.

Coach: there is a small creek that feeds the lake on the north side (unless they dammed it off recently.

Great to read that you got a lot from our trip. Yep, the line watching will definitely catch you more fish, and the superglue saves a lot of jigs for sure.
Those Bill moments are priceless laugh

Austin Aggie,

Yes, it's still up on the north end. I caught some bass under that Research Forest bridge and back in that creek.

I usually choose one end or the other - long paddle.

Is the superglue for the knot?

Dear Gone,
No, the superglue is for gluing down the hinges on my tacklebox. Can't get to any jigs, so I can't lose them, hence I don't loose as many. laugh Only joking, I sometimes put a dab behind the head for insurance. I don't usually superglue my knots, I just don't have the patience. smile

I tie a palomar knot so I am never worried about that.

The super glue is applied to the jig head where it meets the rubber jig body. The thing won't come off.

I am going to test the same theory with some jigs this week in Arkansas that I use for smallies.

I slide the jig up on the jighead...then put a drop or 2 of superglue wher the jig meets the head. Helps them stay on better. Shooting docks can be rough on rubber-body jigs if you are new to it.
