I am looking at getting a 8 wt Sage Launch with a Sage 1680 reel - Has anyone ever casted one or know much about them? I need a bass rod and found a deal for the whole combo with line and case for $199.

It's more than the catfish would do.

Sound like a great deal. If you don't mind me asking where you found that deal and do they have any other weight rod. Looking for something in a 5 or 6 weight.

I purchased a Sage 8 Wt. FLi awhile back. I later had the opportunity to cast a Launch. I liked the Launch much better. I found it loaded up better and had more of a moderate action, which I like.

brand new i'd say JUMP! used...depends. the sage launch is a great rod. in fact, it's the only sage rod i think is priced realistically. $220 msrp brand new. but you can do better than sage reels for similar or less money. personally, i'd buy an elkhorn t-3 for an 8wt sage launch. you'd love it! but that would be "ideal." the sage combo isn't a bad rig at all. you'd enjoy it.

I just got a 4wt sage launch and it casts like a dream. I absolutely love it. Haven't ever used sage reels, but I bought a reel from Flyfishing Benefactors at the suggestion of someone on this forum and I've got say, I was extremely impressed. I purchased the Firehole I, which is a 3/4 reel. This thing looks and feels like a $500.00 reel and cost $129.00. I would strongly recommend you check out their site.

Larry is correct on the action, it is a moderate action fly rod, the FLI is a fast action rod.

The Launch has a huge following just as the FLI as they were Sage's lower priced entry fly rods.

It was at http://www.bobmarriottsflyfishingstore.com, but they are back up to $395 now. They had them on for $195 a while back (all weights) I was showing my dad the deal and saying I was going to buy it - he called me back the next day and told me not to buy it because they already ordered it for my birthday next month (but not to tell mom that he told me haha) I was just wondering what people thought of it without saying that I already had it comming - to hear what people really thought of it. I am excited to give it a try!

Thanks for the feedback!

They've got some interesting fly lines for sale over there at the old Marriott place at some pretty steep discounts.
