I have had a lake house down there for 2 years now. I have only tried for crappie under my dock during the early spring. Last year caught a few but were dandys. Haven't tried anything yet this year. The lake is down incredibly. You might want to call the marina first and make sure the lake is up enough to launch a boat.

dpax...welcome to the TFF family of anglers. Until a few days ago I had never heard of this lake. A friend of mine is looking to buy a place there on the lake. I am happy to see someone posting about this lake. What is the name of the Marina?

i fished for crappie this last summer from may-july aobut 4 or 5 times and filled up a cooler of crappie every time. It was HOT weather.
Scary part is, they bite better in march/april.
I plan on fishing it begining early part of april, crappie should be spawning by then.
Does anyone else fish in murvaul???
If so, where do you have success with crappie?

BAJackson I was told this is a private lake, that you must be a property owner to get on the water. Is that not true?

Right now should be a great time to hit the bridge going across Murval. You have to get there early and get a stop, otherwise you're stuck out from the bridge and get only a straggler or two.
I haven't fished there in about 3 or 4 years now, but that spot doesn't change.
Good luck, Chris

Murval is South of Longview about 25 miles, and East of Henderson, its off Hwy 149 South toward Carthage, Its been there a long time I fished it 45 years ago I think it has 2 ramps and a small marina, it was very stumpy, I have not fished in 15 years, we did catch good Bass, They may have RV areas now thats all I know

I caught one of my first bass on a Rattle Trap at Lake Murval. I was just a little kid and I caught a 2-3 lb bass on the boat dock in front of everybody, it was great. All of those old timers took me inside and we weighed the fish on the scale they had in the marina(can't remember exactly, im 26 now). Does Murval have a HP rating for boats? Ive been wanting to go back because I remember that lake being one of the bassiest looking lakes I'd ever seen. (hope its still like that). Heres a pic from the past!!

No HP rating, but like 410 said, it's VERY stumpy!

Thx for the info. Its been a long, long time since I've seen that lake. Is there still a ton of Hydrilla and Lilly Pads all over the place? Anybody have any recent photos they could post up?
