Sat in the Kayak today watching hi-vis line twitch like a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory. Some fish hit with conviction, some bit like convicts. Had to watch the line. 1/16 oz blue and white and black/chartreuse fished over brush piles in 14 ft of water (most suspended about 8-9 ft) and jigging timber near channels worked for me.
Boated 65+, only kept 21 fillet-sized crappie for the freezer.
The cold wind was my ally because it kept sooooo many people off the water. Probably only saw four other fishers in the cove and one or two pleasure craft.

I was out there all yesterday and boated 3 White Bass and never smelled a crappie.. Launched my boat at Murelli Park on the North East side of the lake .. The wind was bad but I hit every North shoreline bay looking for timber in the water.

I went looking around the South Side of the lake by the Gaylord and worked West.. Wind was bad and found a few coved with several boat ramps and jigged those but to no avail..

Where is timber in 14 ft of water ?? Did I not go far enough West ??

Only second time out there..

Thanks

BobbyR,
Did you see a small blue kayak with a geezer flailing the water during your travels? I didn't boat a keeper til 11:00 a.m. because I tried shallow first. I backed out a little deeper and caught fish in spurts.

BobbyR, are you still sitting around looking for someone to go fish Grapevine with? I'm about to go it alone in a canoe.

I actually caught crappie last night! They tried to elude me, but I finally found a few. I combed every bank of one of the coves at Twin Coves in the canoe. Fished for three hours and managed a nice channel cat, a few LMB and a few bream. Not a crappie in sight!

I tried one last spot just down the way from the parking area before I left and caught a few dink crappie. Beached the canoe and started fishing the rocks. Caught a total of 21 and kept 9 standing in the dark on black/chartreuse tube jig 18-24" under a bobber. Seems they were either 12" or dinks. Couldn't stay all night so left them biting.

I was a little disappointed that I didn't find crappie anywhere else in that cove. I covered a lot of water. Saw plenty of people not catching anything.

Don't have a boat. Just waders and a 12 ft jig rod. Was in the Marshall Creek area.

I must say, those crappie were mighty tasty! This was my first time to catch, clean and eat fish. Four hungry mouths couldn't finish those nine crappie. Looks like cold crappie for breakfast in the morning! laugh
