Too much activity on this board! Knew I shoulda shot dad when he moved us to Houston from Dallas in '80!

Can you think of a single place to bank fish for some sweet crappie in driving distance of west houston?

Fayette and Conroe don't have much 'bank' and at more than an hour away each, they are closest.

Thanks!.....I hope!

John
in de Meadows, 2.5 sq miles, 6 cops, and more stop signs per linear mile than all the neighboring towns combined!

TxJohn,

Try Lake Somerville Marina. Was listening to Captain Wayne on AM 610 (don't have that in Dallas now do you) and they said the crappie were thick near their barge. laugh

TxJohn - I don't know if you can still get to these ponds or not... but years ago my Dad and I got into a mess of crappie in a couple of ponds off of Hwy 6. / Briar Forest in Houston.
If you're going South on Hwy. 6 shortly after you get past I-10 - on the right side of the road is a gas station (Diamond Shamrock I think) with a large hill behind it.
You have to hike up the hill and then back down it and on the other side are a couple of ponds.
When you get to the first pond, turn left and go down the east shoreline of this pond. Keep walking and you will get to another pond. We caught a ton of crappie during the spawn time in this second pond.

At the time this land belonged to the Army I believe but you could access it without any problems. According to mapquest now, it looks like it may be a part of George Bush Park.
But the website for George Bush Park does NOT show these two ponds on it that I'm talking about.. so it's possible they aren't even there anymore.
