How can you look at a crappie and tell if it's male or female? Somebody post pics of each if u have them and show the difference.

It's hard to tell just by holding it up by itself. You have to throw it in the livewell with the others and listen for the nagging to know which one is the female.

Only way I've ever figured it out is to cut them open. If it's got eggs, it's female. Never worried much about it.

It depends on how they take the jig really. The ones that just nibble lightly on it and takes a while making up it's mind whether it's hungry is the ladies. The males will pretty much swallow it whole without chewing and will be looking for seconds.

When you put them on ice or in the live wells the males will just give up and the females will have their mouths open and close in a rapid motion.

In the spring it it easy to tell. I guess you have to cut them open and see if they have eggs or not.
