What are your thoughts on these lakes in early March? Driving down from Missouri.

CASEY, WILLIEFINDUM HERE, FAIRFIELD IS A SMALL (2500 AC) POWER PLANT LAKE, FEW CRAPPIE, GOOD BLACK BASS, AND GOOD RED DRUM (REDFISH), HAS A VERY NICE STATE PARK. RC IS ABOUT 10 MILES NORTH OF FAIRFIELD IS A GOOD CRAPPIE, SANDBASS, BLACKBASS LAKE, UNKNOWN ABOUT FACILITIES. I THINK ABOUT 30K AC. I HAVE NEVER FISHED RC AND IF I WAS COMING ALL THE WAY FROM MO, I THINK I WOULD BE LOOKING FOR A GUIDE FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY. CK WITH TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE ABOUT RESVERATION AT FAIRFIELD, SHOULD HAVE PLENTY BUT YOU WILL NEED THEM. SOMEONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADD TO THIS WITH SOME GOOD GUIDES NAMES.

I could recommend the lake I live on better than I would RC or Fairfield if you are talking about Crappie. It is a really consistant producer of Crappie and during March it will be absolutely fantastic. If you don't want to hire a guide, just fish the docs and the bridges and you should do alright.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the lake. It is Cedar Creek Lake, and it is 36000 acres.

Both lakes that you are thinking about fishing next spring are fine lakes, and as someone has already explained that Fairfield is not a good Crappie lake... But, it is a power plant lake, which means that the water is warm and the Black Bass, and Catfish should be bitting well... Richland/Chambers is the third largest lake in Texas and it's gin clear waters should be full in the spring, and brimming with fish, however the bite will depend on what the spring weather will bring... Usually the Crappie and Bass should be spawning and shallow and biting small spinners and jigs... I would suggest hiring a guide and Royce Simmons comes to mind (Gone Fishing guide service)... There are facilities/cabins down on the lake(Fishermans Point Marina) and (Oak Cove Marina)... One thing I like about R/C lake is there doesn't seem to be much pressure on the lake because of the distance from Dallas and Houston, but in all a very fine lake... But If you would like, Cedar Creek is less than 40 miles away and is a fine Crappie lake... If you have any Questions about the Lakes or the area around Fairfield or need phone numbers I would be happy to help... Steve

Cooper lake has some monster crappie(2lbs+). Get a lake map and go up the creeks...there are 18 major creeks and many other minor ones. First week or 2 of march is awesome. Anyone should at least check it out. Even if you come down to fish another lake you should check out cooper...spebley1@yahoo.com Steve
