Ray Roberts, they lifted the slot! Welcome North Texas to a new tournament lake. Hot but not Texas sweltering hot, calm winds - too calm, humid, some clouds that eventually dissappeared; weather greeted 14 teams this day. We came, we saw, we mostly enjoyed but eventually a majority of us were baffled. Congratulations to the winners that figured them out and a very respectable big bass. Many patterns and many lures, thrown to many places produced the keepers we had and the many small non-keepers some found.

Tough is too kind a word for the way the fishing was out there today. It's frustrating to work your tail off all day and get basically nothing to show for it, especially when a lake holds the kind of fish that Roberts does. I'm sure Champs will get after it, but they have work to do as well. My thanks to all the teams that came out and fished with us today. Thanks to Floyd Slocum (Flexpress) who did a great job as Tournament Director today. Thanks as always to Robert Oleson for all his help and support. And thanks especially to my partner Jeff Cartwright for the ride, and the fun we had despite the tough conditions. Congratulations to Brandon and Joey on your win and Michael and Steve on your big bass. See everyone at the Open on Ray Hubbard in October!

Hey Robert we had 7 lbs even and I think that if you have 1/2 lb penalty the weight would be 6.80 and that would tie for second??

I believe that Roberts will fish somewhat like Chambers and Fork currently do, i.e., the teams that get OFF THE BANK and find open water structure will, for the most part, be winning the upcoming tournaments there. This lake will probably continue to beat those that stay on the bank except for certain times of the year and under very select conditions. I.M.O., the best thing a tournament angler can do to increase his or her success is to get off the bank and find those fish that are less pressured. Maybe CABA should host a speciality tournament where no one is allowed to fish the bank. You think anyone would enter? I'll find out October 10-11 at the CABA championship. I think our event will be won OFF THE BANK, depending on weather changes from now until the event and weather permiting during the event.

i know a guide out there, that says the same thing Rouse. his large fish come from offshore structure. B Willcox gave us a nice show with some nice bass, from offshore structure, too.

Hey Robert we had 7 lbs even and I think that if you have 1/2 lb penalty the weight would be 6.80 and that would tie for second?? Your partner PM'ed me. Since you asked publically I will now answer publically so others do not have questions. A half pound penalty would be 8 ounces or .50 lbs. The club scales measure in hundreths. Paul/Davis weight was 6.80 lbs. Your weight was 7.00lbs minus .50 lbs for 6.50 lbs. The mixup at Lavon was using hand held scales that measured in ounces and we interpreted them as tenths/hundreths. Sorry I cannot help you on this one.

Yep, offshore is the place to fish. Except when they are not biting there either. I know many of our teams reported fishing offshore structure. Some worked, some did not. I can say that both shoreline areas and offshore areas contributed keeper fish to the weigh-in. Just not the numbers or size expected.

I apologize if I offended you and from now on If I have any questions it will be a P.M.

I know that we concentrated off shore most of the day. I hooked a keeper close to the bank early in the day but lost it. After the first hour, we fished consistently between 8 and 20 feet. That's where we got our one keeper. It was just a tough bite. Mike, I think you were assuming that since we're just a bunch of "club" anglers, that means all we do is beat the bank. Even club anglers can read and listen and know what the patterns are on lakes.

Nope, no assuming AT ALL nor did I mean to imply, that just because you guys fish a club that all you know how to do is fish the bank! I just know it's a common practice amoung the majority of tournament anglers (myself including sometimes) to do so during whatever event they participate in simply because it's easier!
