Preacher: How did you guys do last Friday at Grapevine? I will try to post a couple of pics of some crappie my wife and I caught Sunday evening. And also the bobber and minnow with jig set up we used! OK I guess it worked for a change! Preacher and others: This is the crappie rig that I have been very successful with for slabs on Grapevine and other lakes. I do not use a slip bobber as some have suggested but rather a clip on pencil type pictured above. I do not "tip the jig" with a minnow as someone suggested either! The minnow swims above the jig and I believe this is what gives the jig such a unique action. Try it and see if it works for you sometime. I don't like the slip bobber with a stop because you often sling the minnow off when the knot hits the last eye on the rod tip. I have used the slip bobber technique also and find it a big hassel. What I show above really works and is very simple to set up. The pencil type bobber/floats offer the least resistance when the crappie hits it and I think that is why it works so well! Has anyone else tried this setup? Good luck and remember "PATIENCE" pays!

Preacher Man, See the bobber stop on the line above the bead? Where you position the bobber stop will determine the depth. The bead keeps the stop from sliding thru the bobber. On the bottom add a jig (my preference) or a big split shot and a minnow hook on the end. Call me. A mid week late afternoon on the lake would be fun and I will have an empty seat. Maybe we can get An old "Guy" to go with us.

Ernest, what's the deepest you like to go with a slip bobber? I've gone to three or four feet. I wouldn't guess it to be used as deep as 10+ but then again, I'm clueless more often than not.

I normally only use the slip bobber in shallow water but they can be deadly at any depth when the fish want a slow moving bait.
