Got a friend that just had his prop reworked. Had some cavitation problems before it was reworked and now has greater cavitation. Hole shot is good but will cavitate and have blowout in the turns more than before. It is a high performance prop on a Ranger 17'. Gained a few more mph in top in after it was reworked. Do you think the motor is set too high? Nothing under the boat for air bubble tracking. Trim is all the way down and then trim out. After it is on plane, you can run it up to top in but as you back out of it, it will start to cavitate also. Maybe a cavitation plate needs to be installed?

What is your RPM at WOT? Cavitation on turns is indicative of the motor being a little too high. Does the lower unit have a nose cone?

Did they remove the cupping in the prop? It might need more cup or lower hte motor.

What kind of prop is it? Depending on the prop it sounds like its too high. Some props are meant to run partialy surfaced and some aren't.

It's running the correct rpms when it isn't cavitating and the prop has more cup now than before. Going to first try lowering the engine one hole and check the results from there. I think that the initial setup was incorrect for the engine.

sounds like it's not "cupped" properly. won't give away my secrets on a forum, but i can fix the prop.

Steve is right, when a prop is improperly cupped, it slaps the water instead of cutting it, which aggravates cavitation.

Really good prop guys are rare. Really rare.
