depends on where you are fishing. If you are going from the bank I suggest getting some slip corks and setting a jig or two anywhere from 2-10' beneath it.this will vary depending on depth of water, cover etc.cast it out and pull it back 2 feet at a time, just pull it with your tip and let it rest while you slowly reel in the slack line.In my experiance they will usually hit when it is sitting still.Crappie like a smooth retrieve, not jerky or erratic.I prefer to use the non-weighted cigar floats, but will use weighted ones when wind or need for distance requires it.Tie your jigs directly to the line,no snaps.I use what I call an overhand knot and it is just a loop in the line with jig inside the loop.minnows are great bait and everything else will hit them too which is an added bonus.Allmost forgot I like to use a6'spinning rod and reel spooled with 6# mono when fishing jig and cork. When vertical jigging I like the same setup, but with hi-viz line.In my opinion you cannot fish a jig to slow when chasing those tasty crappie. My preferance is 1/16 or 1/8 oz jigheads [unpainted]with solid body tubes or the same weight marabou jigs. This go find you a crappie house[pay dock] or a creek off a main lake and go get em.Good luck

OOps I forgot colors,I like chartruse w/metalflake plain chartruse, purple, purple and white red,red and white, white, pearl, pearl and metalflake.I like metalflake in a lot of my colors, its just a confidence thing. The fish could probably care less, but it makes me more confident in what I am using.
