I posted this in Photos but wanted to share it here has well.

A little background story first.

On Friday nights I take my 7 year old daughter out for some night catfishing and we normally just fish the small city ponds and have a good time catching the dinks and spending time together. Well about a month or so ago I had told my daughter I would take her out to Grapevine and when we get there the wind was so bad that it would not have been any fun. She was upset so we decided to go to a little city pond where we have only caught dinks and bullheads. We get to the pond and the only bait we have is bluegill since we were going to fish Grapevine. I was not expecting to catch anything but not five minutes after putting the first line out the clicker starts going off. We ended up catching several bluecats in the 5-6 pound range. The kicker was we lost one that was a beast.

Well ever since we have been going to this pond every friday to catch the "big one".
Well it paid off this past Friday. We where there for a few hours and had only caught one blue when I baited up one the rods with the head of an 8 inch shad. I told my daughter, more as a joke than anything that big bait will catch big fish. About 20 minutes later the bait runner goes off like it was hooked to a car. I set the hook and about 15 minutes later landed a 40+ pound blue. I say 40+because my cheap scales bounced between 45 and 48 so I am not sure the exact weight. For reference I am 6'2 and about 220lbs

Never under estimate the small city ponds. banana

Note: If you know where this pond is please release the big catfish as this pond is a fantasic place for kids to have a chance to catch some good size cats and even a trophy.

Great Job, sure your daughter will always remember that night and every friday you go with her. Those are special times, I know, I was that kid with grandpa and now I take all 4 of mine as much as I can.

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way you are a mile away, AND you have their shoes.

That is amazing how big is the pond? Now she is going to have to fish double hard to top that one.

Thanks for the kind words. My daughter loves to fish and just ask if we were going this weekend. smile

As for how big the pond is... It is very small and I am told it is only about 7 feet at the deepest.
