Thumbs up on Paul Keith. He knows that lake better than anyone. He will get you acclimated to the lake and then you can go out on your own. Buy a map at the store near the state park. Caddo lake has "canals" that are marked with lettered telephone poles. These poles are on the map.

We always stay at Mossy Break Camp. You stay in an elevated two bedroom trailer that is right next to then water. It has a glassed-in back porch that has a bed also. There is a canal to the backyard that is dug from "U" canal. If you have a boat, you can pull right up to the yard. The number is 903-789-2215.

That area is very secluded. One of the places to eat is on the river and the other is on the swamp. The one on the swamp opens and closes whenever it suits them. Bring your supplies with you. The trailer at Mossy Break has all of the furnishings such as stove, refrigerator, microwave, etc. Nancy and Terry will treat you right and their dog Mike is a hoot!

There are some nice natural trails, canoe trips, pontoon guided tours offered at the state park.

Big pines on the river burned several months ago, only other place after that is David Beards in Waskom, TX, not too far on Hwy 9. Good fish, shrimp and salad bar.

You are less than an hour from Shreveport, lots to eat and do. You know that you may even have to make a trip to Bass Pro while you are there.

I have stayed at Crips and Spatterdock, and I would choose spatterdock over crips as far as the housing, but Crips has a tackle shop and little restraunt and knows a couple fishin spots. Spatterdock is right down from Shady Glade (they used to have the absolute best onion rings but discontinued them) and they have a big ole steam river boat thing they give tours on... You really cant go wrong out at Caddo as long as you get on the water and enjoy its unique beauty!

If you stay at Cripps, there is a little restaurant at the end of the road, pulling out of Cripps. Very good catfish. They were there a year ago. Just a few tables.

As for other things to do, I haven't done it myself, and I don't know if it runs in October, but there are night time lake tours that are supposed to be awesome. They say, many, many creatures of the lake don't come out until dark. These guides use Go-Devil boats that can work in just a few inches of water and get you back in places to see all sorts of things you just don't normally get to see wild. Gators, Owls ect...

http://www.caddooutback.com/tours.html

Jefferson is just up the road, and is a historic town. I believe there are lots of antique shops and things like that. Lots of B&B's there as well.

Whatever you choose to do, I think you will love it. No other lake like it in Texas.

Please, report back when you are home.

As far as things to do. Jefferson is the place for the wife. It is nothing but one antique shop after another.

As far as the fish, get with that Kent Cella, he'll put you on something.

Hey Mudd,
I lived in Shreveport for more than 25 years, won a lot tournaments on Caddo, Cross Lake, Bistineau and Toldeo Bend.
Good to see someone from Shreveport on here.
I was marketing director for Skeeter in the early 90's.
Got a lot of good fishing buddies there I have not seen in quite a while.
If you see any legendary fishermen around there tell them John Lee said hello.
I was fishing a jig and pig when jig and pig was'nt cool.
Live in North Dallas now and still catching fish.
