I have been visiting the forum for about a year now and I have learned quite a bit about the great sport of Crappie fishing or Sacalait as we say in Cajun Country! Everyone's input is insightful and meaningful, and my knowledge base of how to catch those speckled fish grows with each visit. Thanks for the invite Sharon!

Hello everyone - been on for a year now and as you can see from my posts am pretty much a lurker. Have learned a lot!!! on here about crappie fishing, just haven't had the opportunity to put it to a lot of use. Not too many success stories - not because of the advice, just haven't invested enough time in it. Feel kinda awkward sometimes just asking questions and passing along info gleaned from the locals and not posting more about successful catches and where they were caught - hope to end that though as I now have a faithful fishing pard and my boys now have more free time to get out with me. Hope to add more to the Central/ West Texas crappie discussion in the near future. Thanks for letting me look and learn!

I too have visited this site daily for well over a year, and have only very recently joined. Don't have alot to say really, as I don't have a boat and I fish on Belton Lake from a private dock.....no CC for me unfortunately. One of these days, I'm gonna politely ask Ernest or one of the other obviously talented guides here to take atleast one of my sons (I have an 11 year old and a 13 year old who both LOVE to Crappie fish) & I on a full day guided trip. I'd really like to get those boys....yea....me too of course... wink on some big ol' hybrids as well. I can't catch anything but small ones out where I fish, and we rarely ever catch a white over a pound and a half or so. Don't get me wrong, we catch alot of whites this time of the year, but they just don't get really big in Lake Belton, or atleast the big ones don't quite make it to the end of the lake where we fish.... frown

Darn, I was hoping you were going to be boatless long enough to have to go fishing with me!!!! I really can't wait for them to go deeper, I like fishing for them better that way. Folks leadhead00 is the brushpile king, and he is like an invisible man, I never have caught him out on the lake, if I did, I would be trying to follow him around to see where all those little pots of gold are. Doesn't matter kitchenscales, we are glad to have you. There will be a day that you can share with us, and you will be so glad to have a place like this to do so. Sharon

It's not always about what you can teach. It's mostly about what you can share. Good experiences and bad experiences all have one thing in common...they're learning experiences. wink

Share the bad with the good and don't be embarassed. We all learn from each other, both good and bad. That's what's great about the TFF. Well, that and it's a nice, daily support group. laugh

Aloha fell TFFer's:
I am a real lurker that reads these pages everyday...I was born and raised in Texas and live in Big D for many years...I moved out to Hawaii in the fall of 2002...since then, this is were I get my crappie fix from till I get to come back to Texas for vacation. Before i moved, I was mostly a green trash fish hunter, and fished for crappie when i wanted to have fun and eat the best tasting fillets. I always looked forward to spring time to fish for spawning crappie rather the LMBs with a jig and bobber. Its so nice to read and hear all your posts about your trips and sharing your advice. I have learned more about crappie fishing than I have in the years that i lived in Texas!
But the funny thing is, living in Hawaii, with the ocean and all its fish, I would rather be fishing for crappie than some kind of fish from the ocean that you dont even know what is!
Cant wait for summer vacation and hit the brush piles and bridges with my fellow TFFer's
Aloha!

HoleinMyHook, So glad to hear from you. My son moved to Maui in October, and is the new assistant pro at Kapalua golf resort, not sure what course, not Plantation, but one of the others. How interesting to hear that there are crappie in Hawaii. What island do you live on? Sharon

Aloha Sharon,
I live on the island of Oahu. And no, there is no crappie in Hawaii. There is some green trash fish and catfish on some of the freshwater reservoirs here. In fact, they have a catfish season here also, but I hate catching those slimy kitties! I have tried to do some bank fishing here with other peoples poles, but they got all these crazy rigs and weights, and you are constantly getting hung on the reefs. Just give me WM rod n reel with 6# hi-vis and i would be happy! The best fishermen here dive for their fish. Now, thats crazy!
Aloha
