Can't help but ask.How far away is the nearest pond?I wouldn't think he would venture that far away from water. And as fat as he is,looks like he may be an awesome hunter.

The pond is right on the other side of the tall grass, that gator doesnt have to go far at all for an easy meal from the feeder.

I bet he gets his share of pork and venison when they venture too close to the pond.

You are absolutely right JB, the water is their turf and I wouldn't even mess with a small 3 footer while in the water. On land, their aggressiveness is usually in the form of a defensive posture. My best freind and I were duck hunting one time and we found a gator, and like idiots we started messing with it. It chased us all of about 5-10 feet, and after that the gator didn't even try. I guess he just wanted to make sure we knew he was the boss...and trust me...we conceded that point to him very quickly and willingly.
Now...back to the picture. I am certainly no wildlife biologist, zoologist or expert on pigs or gators, but I am compelled to play the devil's advocate and ask how that little pig managed to not hear, see or smell that gator from less than 5 feet away. In the water, they are the stealthiest things on earth, but on land they are noisy and they have a peculiar smell. Pigs are very cautious and generally they get spooked easily. I am curious as to how that gator could sneak up on it like it did. I don't see any broken or bent brush/weeds where he traveled through and I don't see any drag marks in the dirt under or beside the feeder. On land, as JB stated, alligators are rather cumbersome and I would bet that in a forest environment, even Helen Keller could detect one coming toward her. That picture may be as real as you and I are, but a couple things leave questions in my mind...his lack of noise, smell and ground contact, as well as the pig just standing there when any other pig in their right mind would have hauled butt.

Dragonuv...you should be compelled to play the devil's advocate on this one. This is photo-shop at its worst. The contrast and shadows are not consistent between frames (nowhere close). Please don't anyone try and say this is because the gator was wet either because if so it would leave tracks...etc.
No harm done. Still makes for a cool pic. Creative. I like that.

My thoughts exactly.
