I would suggest Ernest Patys Crappie 101 video or Paul Obiers Standing Timber video it has lots of good tips.

How are you fishing? Out of a boat or on the banks? What lake are you fishing and what type of structure is there? There are different techniques for fishing jigs: vertically, pitching it, shooting it. It depends on structure, depth, and time of year. If you could give a little more information, I might be able to get you headed in the right direction.

Thanks,Richard IMHO, the mistake most people make when 1st trying to get into jig fishing is "too much is TOO MUCH". What I mean is most folks (me included when I started out) actually "jig" a jig too much. I have had more success when I try to hold a jig perfectly still. Remember your heartbeat, breathing, boat movement (even on a calm day) will make for a tantalizing presentation. Again, that's just me.

I think the real key would be be to go with a guide or someone that is sucessful/specalizes with jigs and have them show you what they do. That is what I did and have improved 1000X. Be sure to not only listen to them, but watch exactly what they do! It is the little things that make the difference.... especailly with jigs!

I'm still a newb to crappie fishing, but I could not agree more with all of the above posts. I've been out with Mr. Cliff Spindle twice and learned a GREAT deal, no doubt, but time on the water will always be your best friend. If it's with a guide, then that's great, but just make sure your on the water... period, and trying different things.

I'm fishing out of a boat on RH.I've tried the trees, bridges, open water over what I thought might be crappie. just not having any luck.I'm sure it's my lack of experience. just started using jigs, would rather catch on artificial for a change.

most people complicate crappie fishing way too much. you can catch a ton of fish on jigs riggin them exactly the way you rig a minnow. tie a jig about 3 foot up the line, another about 8 inches from the bottom and then put on a 3/8 oz bell weight. get over a brush pile and drop it straight down and hold it still. I promise it works.

Trying to hold the jig perfectly still is the best advice that I can give. If that doesnt work I like to drop the jig all the way to the bottom, then give it one crank every three seconds till a fish hits it. Once you know that depth try dropping down to that depth. Do not reel it in but pull the line up and pitch the jig back out and let it fall. Once it gets straight down, hold on and don't move it.
