I recently picked up a canoe and took it out up and down Buck Creek last Thursday hitting all the timbers. I was fishing shallow and deep with live minnows and even tried a few jigs. Not a single bite all day. I didn't get started until around 10 and called it quits around 3 - not the best time for fishing, but after I dropped the kids off at school I figured I'd give it a shot. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

I tried pitching a few lures for bass but quickly realized I need to practice from that low on the water line. With that being said, if you spend a little time I'm sure you'll find some of my lures wrapped around the timbers!

The crappie have been holding on singled out timber in 25 ft of water or so. Most fish are 2 to 5 turns up. minnows or jigs.

Cliff nailed it.

Thanks Cliff. I don't think I was nearly deep enough. The first time I dropped an anchor out there I was shocked at how deep that creek really was. I tried to bounce around the timbers and even drifted through there for a while on both sides of the road/railroad tracks. I'm planning on a boat this spring and I can't wait. I had a canoe back home in FL that worked out great on the salt flats and lagoons, but the TX winds are a killer!
