I wish there was a power control roller switch on the floor you could adjust the thrust with your foot...if they had that I would already have one.
When its windy there is no questin I prefer a hand control.
back when Hand Control was the standard, they had these. It was called the Big Foot Box by Motorguide. Great system, they just don't work with newer units. Not sure why, exactly. Something to do with mosfat heads versus digital heads. I still have the hand control motorguide with the box on the floor. I had to convert it to digital this year - I got 12 years out of the mosfet. The variable speed is something I can't live without.

The real question is which one will afford more casts in a day.

Check out the steering controls on this neat little boat. Think there might be one of these in the future when my current little one becomes to beat up to keep patching. www.carolinaelectricboats.com

I like foot when I'm flipping or fishing around cover. I can react faster, but I love a hand when the wind blows.

Fished the hand control for years but went foot with a recessed tray several years back. For control I love the foot but on the long days my back kills me especially when its windy. Probably because I hate to use the butt seat.

fortrex foot control.... gives you both ..you can adjust speed with your foot , also put it on constant run ..then take your foot off the pedal ..stays where you left it ..just like a hand control. then when you are in the stumps , the foot control gives you the "instant reverse" that you need .. aint progress wonderfull !!!!..if you put a power switch in the deck ...aint that like a "foot control " ?????.. I always use the "butt seat " to lean on , mostly to sit on I lowered it ,cause I am vertically challenged .. and anything over 30 inches is too tall .... but when you chop the butt seat, it doubles as a sitter downer.. my next "barfday" I be the dreaded 70 ...

Foot is the only way to go. You can maneuver around stumps easier and you don't have to take your hand off the rod to adjust speed or turn.
I can see where foot would be better in the wind and on your back, but that is about it. The cables in the foot controlled motors are so much more reliable now, there really is no reason to go hand.
Texas seems to have a much higher percentage of hand controlled trolling motors compared to anywhere else I have fished.

I have the foot control on my Ranger and hand control with extension lever on my G3 and much prefer the foot control at all times other than attempting to stand all day when in rough water.

The day I can't buy a good hand control is the day I stop bass fishing! Is that enough of an opinion for you?
