Hi guys,
Going out with the kayaks this weekend. Planning on fishing Bird island one day, then spending a day past the breakers. Anyone had any luck out there? Third sand bar? What baits are working now?
I was planning on taking cut mullet or whitting to the third bar, anchoring up and waiting. Anyone have luck on spooks or assasins for trout?

I've always caught trout in the surf on Rapala skitterwalks (baby trout pattern in various colors).
Start out shallow at dawn and work out to deeper guts as the sun comes up.

Great fishing between first and second gut, around 6:30am with topwaters...Also find "PINTCHES" along the shore or holes..
As the sun and wind come up, fishing turns off. IMO.
USE CUT MULLET TO CATCH BIG REDFISH IN SURF...
Whiting are easy to catch with dead shrimp. Good eating ones coming in at 20", too. Caught over 200 a month ago.

I'm here now. Its awful really. The surf was off all day. Low tide smacked us pretty hard. We had duldrums for about 3-4 hours this morning. I'm heading to the basin I believe tomorrow.
