Has any one had a chance to try LED submersible lights? They claim to put out more light for less power. They cost a bit more and if the "you get what you pay for" rule applies here then it looks like I'll be getting me some new LED lights. Cabela's also has some LED's that are cordless and run on a couple of AA sized batteries. I just can't imagine these things putting out more light than something that's running from my heavy duty marine battery but they cost about $50! Any thoughts are appreciated

I have a LED Lantern as well as a fluorescent. The LED puts out half the light which is almost useless for fishing. Until someone shows me a very bright LED, I won't buy any.
I have many of the fluorescent submersible lights as well as one halogen light. The halogen light is an awesome light but eats car size batteries for lunch. So, I hardly use it unless I know I am only going to fish less then 4 hours.
Let us know if you find a stellar LED light, for I buy one if it's brighter and last longer then other lights!
The fluorescent lights run about $30 at your local sports store.

I bought a little 2 cell "c" size battery LED flash light that is 10 times brighter than my old led. But it cost me 29 bucks. Last forever and puts out a lot of light. I'm going to have to try it and see if it will work for night fishing. I got it at the Black and Decker Outlet in Hillsboro.
I know its not near like a crappie light but this thing really does put out a bright beam. What the heck can't hurt to try...

If any of you really are looking for the men's toy rather than the boys' toy, there is a solution. An extremly powerful light for night fishing; what a bang for the buck!!! I just found at Costco for $29.99. It's definitely not your typical 2mil or 3mil candle lights like the ones we see most department store carried. This one is cordless with 120v & 12v cig plug included, and the lense is as big as a dinner plate. Seriously, it's rated at 12mil candle light (yes! twelve million candle lights).
Ever got to your fav. timber spot (stick-up jungle) and fish thru the dark hours? By the time you pack up and leave, it's too dark to see all the submerged stumps that love to take a bite out of your lower unit. Well, this monster can shine over a mile easily. With fully charged, it's rated for 40min continuous use. Enough to get you out of the jungle.
The draw back?....BULKY!!!, but what do you expect to handle a dinner plate size lense with 100watts bulb that would put out a whopper 12mil candle lights?....hehehehe....Hope this help

Oh I forgot to mention.... You can't hook this light (the one I just described above) to your hat (even the TEXAS size hat) to tie on a jig.... However, you can use it as a temperary heater. Yup! you can definitely feel it...

There's a 15 million for $29.99 at the Sam's Club in Grapevine, comes with a cig adapter and has a 3 LED light built into the upper handle so you won't blind your partner looking for something in the boat.

Are you guys talking about a light to see by or a light to attract the fish? I have used the 2 AA battery green led underwater light, it really puts out a bright light and attracts the fish. Just hang it over the side suspended from a rope about 4' down, depth depends on how muddy/murky the water is. It cost me $19.99 on sale about a year ago at Bass Pro. For tying knots, etc. I use a head lamp that has a red lense, puts out a lot of light but does not draw bugs. I also have a lantern that is led, puts out a bluish light, it is bright but doesn't blind your eyes if it is at a bad angle and does not draw bugs.

Has anyone tried the "cat eye" light that hooks to the underside of the brim of a ball type cap. lite weight and great for up close and personal work. you can get it in white or green lite. the green does not attract bugs. Gander Mtn, wallyworld & bp carry them. cost about 12 bucks.

I have a $20 green fluorescent lamp now and it works pretty good and draws only about 1 amp. I was hoping that even if it costs a bit more that I could find an LED light that would both be brighter AND draw less current from my battery. It's hard to compare these lights the way they advertise them. I hated to pay for one just to see if they were all they are cracked up to be. I saw an LED light on Cabelas web site that ran on like 2 AA bateries and claimed to have something like 350 hours of battery life but it cost about TWICE as much as my fluorescent tube light. For DOUBLE the price it better be a heck of a lot brighter. However, I just can't imagine anything that runs on a couple of AA batteries being brighter than anything running on a large marine battery.

Josey, I don't know if one is more bright or draws less amps than the other. I like mine because I can use it without a battery to connect to. I also have a green led tube light that connects to your boat battery, it is not very long but is bright. It only cost $10.00.

RedTopLady Yeah I hear ya about the convenience of not having to connect that LED to a battery. Just another big plus for the LED. How bright is your AA battery powered LED compared to the one that connects to the boat battery?

I pre-wired both sides of my boat. Just plug in and go with nothing to tangle. I would imagine the marine battery power lights would be much stronger and brighter. Then again, I've been proven wrong before due to the robust technology. There are always better product as we go. Thanks to mankind!!!
