Anyone having any luck on Caddo? A buddy and I are going out tomorrow afternoon. Fished Sat., but the wind was horrendous and the fishing wasn't too hot.

Fish the big lake around the trees and take plenty of minnows!

we have always caught a few in the big cypress bayou on the laydowns. It isn't always hot, but it's always worth a try. Sometimes you'll catch some big ones there when nobody else is catching anything. You can use a bobber when you go shallow, but drop the bobber and fishing in 15' to 20' in submerged timber on the ends of the laydowns. All the way from Uncertain to Big Pine Lodge.

The crappie aren't really in the channel right now. Stay out in the big lake.

Did the crappie ever 'get shallow' in front of Johnson's Ranch? I was out there two times this winter and could not find them shallow like I have in the past.

LOVE that lake - I'm green with envy of yall who fish it on a regular basis.

My ultimate goal is to have a beer with the swamp monster out there one of these days. Maybe a picture of us holding up a stringer of fish - you know, good times.

I didn't catch them up shallow this year around Johnson's, and I don't know anyone who did. The shad weren't in the channel like they were last year, and I guess that's why the crappie weren't there either.

I agree about the idea that they never really bunched up in the channel in front of Johnson's this year, at least not when I was around. It seemed like we had very few times that several clear, cold days were strung together (which I think is what it takes), and when we did they were in the middle of the week when I was on the clock. I never really hit them.

We were out this Saturday (4/23) and the crappie were actually hitting ok very early, but slowed down quickly and shut down completely by mid-morning. Very chilly & windy, bright sunshine - I have the glow to prove it.

Well, today isn't looking too good, although it is supposed to clear up this afternoon. Maybe they'll start biting by the time we make it out on the water around 3.

Hey, I'll take lake of the pines any day over Caddo, Crappie average much bigger and you can catch em almost anytime! My wife and I have limited out two Saturdays in a row the last two weeks in 5 feet of water around the Brushy Creek area.. This lake is overlooked for catfishing to, the cats here are much bigger than Caddo or wright Patman..

I've heard so much about Lake Of the Pines & have never been on it. There's timber everywhere in that lake so you should be careful - right?

glad to see this question, now I got one I have caught good Crappie on Caddo, when I went with a friend that new where to fish, not lately, however we been fishing West of there on Little Cypress,{reminds me alot of in front of Johnsons ranch}, north of Hallsville , the crappie get in the middle of creek in a bend that is the North Boundry of our property, for about 4-5 weeks in 10-14 ft. water ya can catch 200 but only 15-20 over 10 inches every time ya go, then they stop, I can not find them anywhere else up and down the creek WHERE they go ant suggestions. And wallace ya better be careful only in the big open water its OK but if ya get in the woods Becareful

Smile while you still have teeth.

My dad had 18 keepers, 2 catfish, a bass, and some goggle eye yesterday in 4 hrs at Caddo. We're going out this afternoon around 2:30 to try it again. I've never crappie fished on Pines, but like DonnieP says, it's got some nice ones in it.

bwhatley, we talked to your Dad this morning, he did alot better than we did. Only got two cats, a few throw back crappie and some bream. He gave us a few tips to try out when we go back tomorrow or this weekend.
Good luck today...

The timber is not bad, lots of clear open water, the timber is mostly on the upper end but then timber and fish go good together..

Gents, this a 100 quart cooler full of channelcat we caught in three hours on slip corks and vanilla soaked shrimp!

This is the way we like to catch Crappie at the pines..

And this is some cats caught on rod and reel at the Pines!
