Went wade fishing out at San Luis Pass Galveston this weekend. Fished on the south west side of the bridge. Specks every cast with live shrimp below a popping cork. Plenty of lady fish too. Not many keepers, but a lot of fun. I went to the jetties too but the gafftops were insane. Caught a sea turtle in the flipper that swam through my line. It was released unharmed after a quick hook removal.

i have cleaned them for years. they are white meat like a bluecat. i have never seen any more bones than a channel or blue. i want redfishking to tell us how many he has cleaned to see these extrea bones. the problem with gafftop is the slime. it gets on everthing. other than that they are better eating than reds.
REDNECK, and proud of it.

Have eaten a ton of them and they have a blood line similar to a stripper. Cut that out and they are just as good as Blue or Channel cats. I think someone may be confusing them with hard heads which are boney.

gafftop are better eating than reds?????? NOT!
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

Ive cut open a few for cutbait, not worth eating in my opinion lot of blood and i was told they have small shards of bone in them like a gar. If you want cats go fresh way better eat'n.

i don't say you need to eat them, but if you have not eaten one how can you tell people they are not good. the meat is white. they do not taste anything like a gar. i do want to know though, how can you claim freshwater cats are better than gafftop. i have eaten both and will admit bluecats are a lot better, but they are no worse than channels.

I posted about eating Jack Crevalle last week and just like this thread most postings were about not eating the fish. I have heard nothing but GOOD reports on eating Gafftop. If you haven't eaten the fish you shouldn't report disparagingly about it.
