Is there an easy way to choose the color jigs based on the water color?? Maybe a color chart found online. I think this would help me narrow choices rather than hit or miss. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you very much in advance for your time!!
If you can't decide between gumbo or fried crappie, then eat both!!

IMHO: Any color you have confidence in is a good color. A good rule of thumb to follow:
Clear water = light colored jigs w/ good contrasting body/tail. . Dark / Muddy water = dark colored jigs w/ contrasting body and tail. . Just my .02...I am sure other members have their opinion as well. There is no real way to choose the "right" color, as many many variables dictate what color to use....the most prominant is "use the color the fish want". Sounds smarty, but I don't know how else to explaine it. If you see / mark fish on your graph, fish above them with the color you have the most confidence in and go from there. . Good Luck and welcome to the TFF

It does not hurt to ask other fishermen around you what's working for them.To many chooses.

For clear water, I like chartruese. For stained water, I prefer chartruese. But for muddy water, I will go with chartruese. Just about any color is good as long as it is chartruese.

For the most part, Chartruese is a good color for agressive fish. White is also a go to color.
There are times when the bite is tough.
I'm an old tournament bass fisherman and find that the color rules apply to crappie as well.
Match your water color in a finiky bite. This means pumpkin seed (maybe with a touch of chartruce) in muddy water, smoke, clear, shad colors in clear water. Watermellon in and around grass or greenish water....
Baitfish camoflague themselves the best they can, it's the water movement that the predators pick up on.

There are charts that give you color choices but I have never used them. The best way is to ask your bait shop or marina. I have my favorite colors for Cedar Creek that varies by time of year and water clarity. Brewboys' color selection I agree with and the fish do rely on water movement that they detect with there lateral lines and inner ear. Crappie that are in muddy water rely on movement more than anything. Crappie in Murky water use a combination of sight and movement. Clear water crappie rely the most on sight. Hope this helps

I try and use the color that they are biting on...lol I am totally confused on the importance of color. Some days I think it makes a huge difference, some days I think it makes zero difference. I think my Xbox Rapala fishing game is right when it says "crappie are very easy to catch, but can be difficult to find". It is probably right that 99% of catching them is finding where they are and at what depth. At Lewisville marina, day in and day out, it seems people catch them on chatreuse or pink, bright colors, but the water is certainly not clear at all. Sometimes I think they catch them on those colors because that is what they are fishing with. But who knows.
For example, I think Earnest likes to use a no color head with blue and brown or something like that. And he catches as many or more fish than anyone.

The water is stained at the barge and I use a shad colored solid tube. Look at the shad flipping around outside the barge at dawn and you'll see why I use that one. Sure, you can catch some agressive fish on pink, chartreuse.... The live minnows and baits that match the natural forage will catch those that won't be caught by the brighter jigs. I've seen times when any color would work and I've also seen times where if you didn't have orange, you couldn't get bit (situation with lots and lots of shad) You had to have something that stood out. So, just fish with what you've got confidence in and if it doesn't work, try to match the hatch. It works.

I wish people would stop saying color and type matters...it costs me money as then I have to buy every color, every brand, lol. Of course I just ordered about 20 different color combos tubes online....so too late.

The best overall color I have used in the past 15 years was a tube jig I used to buy at USA Sports in Hurst Texas. It was a brown/pearl tube. The head end was a chocalate milk color and the tail was pearl color. USA Sports was the only place I could find them. I can't tell you the times the crappie would only hit this jig and nothing else. The problem now is I can't find them anywhere and i ran out of them about 3 years ago. If you happen to find them somewhere, buy em because they will catch fish better than any color combo I have tried. the next best combo I have used is a tri color. Red head, green body and chartruse tail. these seem to do real well in late spring and early summer. I remember one day on lake Grapevine I was fishing and the only color combo they would hit was a black/pearl tube. I bet I caught 100 fish that day. But that was the last time I had any success with that color combo. the bottom line is, try different colors and when you find one that works, stick with it until it don't work no more and then switch.

Falls,
Look at Midsouthtackle.com. They have about 100 different color tubes. I ordered 50 bucks worth the other day. I looked for ya...they have a brown with pearl tail. It is series number 900. There, now you have your magic lure back...
