This afternoon I sunk about 8 6'-8' cedar trees in a lake in Tyler. I tied a chunk of concrete to the bottom of each tree and put it overboard. The trees all stood vertically after I put them in. My question is : will they stay vertical, or will they fall over after awhile, i.e. they get waterlogged.

The answer is 'yes' eventually, but cedar being as hard a wood as it is; it'll take a while.

If you will tie an empty 16 or 20 oz plastic coke bottle to the top they will stand much, much longer. Another lesson I learned from Buchanan as a child.

Sounds just like our crappie condos. We take 8 foot cedar fence pickets and tie a couple or 3 bricks to the bottom and tie a water bottle to the top for bouyancy then we take 5 gallon black plastic landscapers pots and cut them up in thirds and attach them in pairs to the fence pickets about every foot or so. You can assemble a bunch without the bricks and pile them up in your boat then just tie the bricks on and toss them over board. Sure beats fighting with prickly pear christmas trees or cedars and you won't lose any jigs.

If it takes less than one truck to haul away all of your guns then you don't have enough guns!

Arborist,

Can you send or post a picture, or give a verbal image of how you tie the fence pickets together? THANK YOU - jd956@hotmail.com
