Hey guys, when I brought up the subject I was not talking about the Plecos, just the run of the mill Tilapia, it did not even occur to me about the Plecos, perhaps the TPWD should clarify this, maybe even putting a bounty on them. Regards
Gary JSB91010 "who cares..if i was(sic)(were) you...i'd try and get out on the water more" I do need to fish more, try to get out at least once a week sometimes twice, but it's a long way from New Braunfels to Cally and I am living on SS., just don't have the money to do more

i hear that Gary... Even if i was told by a game warden i had to do it, then first time i threw my net and caught 100+ 3" tilaps i'd throw them all back alive again LOL..they can't realistically expect anyone to gut them all.

Be sure and check the rules on commerical fishing - you cannot sell fish in certain counties unless they have been farm raised - if I misread the rule book - please let me know.

My thought process on the tilapia rule is this :
If you are in a lake where tilapia already are present ie calaveras, the rule may be more lax.
If you are in a lake where they are not present and you introduce them to the lake its a whole nother critter. ie. Game Warden catches you fishing on Canyon with live tilapia, have a feeling their will be a big problem.

Not a game fish and not native. I am doing a favor to that lake.. They dont stop the guy selling Tilapia with a jon boat full to the rim and a big fish on the side of his truck..

Plecos are not considered edible not to worried about it since there are droves of people fishing from the banks with no fishing licences and never seen the game warden write a ticket for it.

2 wrongs don't make a right.... most the tilapia guys have the plate mexicajun talking about. I always thought you had to have a license to throw a net bigger than 10ft.. but i don't keep my head buried in the rulebook!

I am not trying to make a right I throw a 6-7ft I do have a 9 for offshore. I am the least of TPWD's problems on that lake, just saying. If the gamewarden wants to start coming out there I will encorage it to the max, but I dont see that happening.I am doing the lake a service by getting rid of the darn things. I think the warden would agree.. They die in water colder that 65 degrees anyways not near as a problem as Tilapia..

gotta have a commercial fishing lic and a permit to sell non game fish. i think you even have to register your boat. gotta have a fish sign on your rig too. i'd guess tilapia and plecos fall under that rule. they have a tax for everything. did i say tax? i meant to say "FEE". I'm not trying to police you redfishon. I wouldnt be concerned about what youre doing if i were you. Sure glad fairfield doest have them. The only reason i know this is because i picked up a commercial fishing guide rule book at the tyler office for bathroom material. A 7ft cast net is the largest allowed in texas waters salt or fresh. Comercial fisherman have the same daily limit we do on all the game fish i read about. There were a few possesion limits that were different and flounder limits were different. Pretty interesting read if you dont mind ciphering through all the BS.
