Hello All,

I just recently discovered what kind of fun Crappie fishing really is.

I am looking for some pointers for Crappie on Ray Bob. What seems to work best there in either the brush piles or bridges that you could recommend.

Minnows?
Jigs?
Worms?

Can you recommend a bridge or bridges to hang around?

We are headed there next week for some much needed R&R and would like to Crappie fish VS Bass fish with about 75% of the time spent CRapie fishing. I do have a boat.

Thanks in Advance

I've been fishing Ray Roberts lateley and have been able to catch as many fish as I wanted on the brushpiles, the only problem that we have is that almost all of them are to small to keep. I've fished with minnows and jigs and both produce lots of fish. All of the fishing I've been doing is between 2 pm and dark. Maybe the morning would produce larger fish, or maybe they haven't moved out to the deeper water in great numbers yet.

I haven't tried the bridges, but have heard that some folks are doing pretty good around the Lone Oak Bridges, just watch out for the thrill seekers jumping off the bridge. This has become very common on the East bridge but the attendant at the state park said it is legal in Texas as long as they are not impeding the flow of traffic. She said that people have drowned doing this in past years at this location. I would suggest you give the Cooke County Sherrif a call if you see any jumpers in the road, someone is going to get hit by a car, a boat, or something if this continues.

I'll get off of my soapbox for now, hope the info about the crappie fishing helps you out and let us know if you catch a bunch.

Somebody may have given you bad info, because I personally was jumping off of lone oak bridge about 8-9 years ago, and thought I had attracted a crowd to watch me do it. Turns out it was the corps of engineers. The officer said he had watched me jump off at least 5 times and said he could fine me a $1000 for each time I did it. Luckily, I was young and dumb, mostly dumb, and he let me off the hook. Needless to say, I didn't do it any more. At least not there!!

FM 3002 is also known as Lone Oak Road. The bridges you crossed to get to Johnson Branch are the ones that I'm talking about.
