you don't really think the person that put that line out monitors this board do ya? .... yeah didn't think so ... you'd feel funny if the guy that owned that line really read this & showed up in yer face smile

all you're doin' here is tootin' your own freakin' horn ... like "boy howdy i got even with all the outlaw trotliners today" ... what do ya want a medal or the chest to pin it on?

everybody knows that illegal trotlines are just that, ILLEGAL ... and we all agree that it's a shame that some of these guys do not tag their equip ... but what is just as dumb as that is these elitists taking matters into their own hands when they have no right at all to do it

First off let me say if I could have gotten it untangled out of my anchor I would have. I was not trying to get or cut a trotline and it really did not cross my mind to keep any of it is why I did not keep any of it.

Albertking,
no-one here is trying to stir the pot except for you. Was it your trotline Albert? I had to roll the line up or let it float around on the surface with the floats the guy had on it to get intangled in someones motor or snag other fish. Like I said I looked for a gear tag found none. So I did what I thought was right thing to do in the situation if a Game warden found me rolling it up and I got a ticket well I guess I get a ticket. The only way I want a medal to pin to my chest is if it was your trotline then I would take pictures of your gear tag and mount it on my wall and post it here for all to see. I had no choice but to cut the trot line. I would have glady called the owner if there would have been a gear tag and let him know what happend and gave him all of his stuff.

you could have cut your anchor rope & simply just let the trotline go ... i have hung up on trotlines many times ... i simply got my stuff loose & went on about my business ... it NEVER EVER crossed my mind to even check for a gear tag or to see if the line was illegel ... none of my beeswax

you never answered my question ... what was the purpose of your post? ... you surely did not imagine the owner of the trotline would even read it ... you just wanted to boast about your heroic deed

If he had floats on it, were any of them marked? You dont have to have a gear tag, some people just mark their jugs. Also, if they had floats marking where their trotline was, its probably not a good place to throw out an anchor. Ive snagged a trotline with my anchor beofre when they didnt have their line marked but I didnt cut their line, I just worked on it and got untangled. If you did have to cut it, why not just tie it back together real good? I find it pretty curious that you would run this person trotline to find each end to check for a tag. There are some people who may meet you with a gun if they catch you running their trotline, which is what it will look like. Especially, if they had caught you stealing their equipment. If it was baited, Im bettring their were some fish on it, what did you do with them? And yes, if a game warden would have rolled up on you, there is no amount of trying to explain that would have gotten you out of that ticket. If he believed you, you would still be looking at charged for theft of property since it wasnt yours. Next time, try harder to unangle from it, and if you HAVE to cut it, then retie it real good for them. STEALING is worse than them forgetting to put on a gear tag. If I catch you speeding and breaking the law in your car, do I have the right to steal your car since you didnt use it within the law? You stole someones property and that is breaking the law, PERIOD.

Is it any of your beeswax what someone does to an untagged trotline anyways? Didnt think so!

Yeah- I don't understand why people are giving such [censored] about this- I would have done the exact same thing if I was in the position.

Actually, I give him props for checking for contact info- I prolly woulda been mad enough to not care.

go back & read the original post ... he cut the line BEFORE he knew there wasn't any tags ... said he wanted to call the owner, you don't put a phone # on a tag, just name & address

that trotline was cut & in the trash no matter if it was illegel or not ... so according to your post you are in total agreement with that ... very good

fact of the matter is ya'll hate trotlines & like to cut'um
