Went out today fished several areas to see if the Crappie were staging up close..... hooked one small sandie.... the lil front may have pushed any back that were thinkin bout it... took water temps at several areas found the shallows to be from 50 to 54 , I would imagine that they would come in quicker as the temp keeps rising... any thoughts???

Not much of a crappie guy, but I would think in general, the warmer weather would help. I generally look for the lows (air temp) at night to be around 50 degrees. Seems like that is when fishing really starts picking up. Also, since moving to Texas,as soon as the blue bonnets start to bloom, spring fishing is at it's peak.

Been in Texas all my life and fish all my life and never have though of nature sprout. Very nice bassdreamer, very original !

bassdreamer, you are correct on the blue bonnets, also easter sunday comes in to play..... have been recording the last few years and plotting them on a chart to see what variables coincide with the days that produce fish the best. Some or most may seem redundant but I am slowly adapting my own techniques to the varibles produced by mother nature..... grandad always had his ideas on the matter i.e. moon, wind, temp.... am having fun proving or disproving old sayings, one such was that "if the wind was at all out of the east the fish bite the least" however, I have seen the crappie bite wouinderfully when the wind was out of the ESE or SE but when the wind comes due E no bite.... just another sick fisherman who thinks entirely too much about fish....
