Now what would be wrong with a Jig with a little weed guard thingy on it, so it wont get hung up in the brush? Not a weed guard like a bass jig-n-pig but a weed guard like like them wacky style hooks. You know, a little thin wire hitch over the point of the hook.

I'm getting tired of breaking off on the brush piles.

Use Power Pro and just bend the hook back after you pull it lose.

Or you can make several different kinds of weed guards. I have even see weed guards made from heavy mono.

Personally, I don't like weed guards, but I have used the weed guard type heads that Cabelas sells with success. I think it's a mental thing with me about the weed guards, but I've tried several and the Cabellas is the only one I liked.

Charlie Brewer Crappie Jigs are designed to be rigged Texas style. That makes them weedless/less prone to hanging in brush.

Give them a try. I like them.

You should try Sliders. You can get them at Walmart, Bass Pro, and Lake Fork Tackle. They work great.

I guess I should have looked closer at the post prior to mine because it is exactly what the gentleman recommended.

as mentioned above . you can make your own with super glue and one strand of heavy mono . personaly dont think they are needed . learn your water and you wont need one .work jig slow.... use swivel and spark plug trick to pop jig out of vertical snags .buy heads in bulk and you wont worry about losing some jigs every now and then w/r/j

PowerPro saves me a ton of jigs and I mostly use feather tail jigs since in my opinion they will out fish soft plastics much of the time. I have a load of soft plastic including Sliders and hardly ever use them any more. Feathers move more in the water even when you are not moving the jig. As they say feathers undulate in water and look more real!

Of course all this is just my opinion, but it is backed up by over 40 years of fishing with soft plastics.

I use the weedless roadrunner head with the wire guard and also use 1/32 oz weedless jig heads. The major difference in using weedless is your rod and your hookset. Use longer and at least medium action with some good backbone and RIP THEM LIPS !

I also bend the weed guard to the tip of the hook as well. I really like to use them when i pitch and flip shoreline cover.

I use stick guards from Bass Pro Shops. This is the only place I can find them. They work EXCELLENT. They slide up the hook shank just under the head and you lightly stick the end of the hook in the end of the stickguard. Try them you will be suprised! Bass Pro
