Could you good folks pass on some information about the fishing barge at Joe Pool Lake. Is there just one, or if there are two which one would you suggest. On the barge that you would suggest, could you provide the following for me so I can get directions and come prepaired whan I go.

The name of the fishing barge you would suggest is best for crappie ?

How much does it cost, and what time does it open to get in and fish ?

I hear many jokes about the size of the crappie there, are keeper crappie really hard to come by, and if they are, are the smaller fish biteing just to keep it interesting and worth checking out ?

I know that is much to ask, but any help for someone that has never been there would be appreciated.

Thanks In Advance For Your Help

Well that Barge is open 24hrs. It has it good days and bad day. I haven't been there in awhile. But if you are lucky to catch a keeper they usally call JP Special. Also there a Black Bass in there they call JAWS. He or she as been eating up the small crappie. Also on Saturday there is a nice lady there in the Barge. She is Red Top Lady. She has a nice little step up there, also that day they are busy. Can't remeber how much it cost to get in. But I think it 5 or 6 bucks to get in with a 2 pole limit.

5 for one pole and 6 for two.

there are two barges. the other one is at the cedar hill state park, but ive never been there. like narc said, it has its good days and bad days while i hear that the last warm spell provided some good action. i hear jokes too, but ive caught some nice ones out there up to 13 inches...

I was out at joe pool about a year ago and i saw jaws . the guy next to me caught a 8 inch crappie the bass chased it till he pulled the crappie out of the water. then as soon as that crappie hit the water he engulfed the crappie hit it hard . then stuck around following us around where we fished. waiting for next crappie to be released . that bass is smart.

Thanks everyone for responding, I appreciate it and look forward to checking this place out.

I know I could just look up the number and get directions from a Lake Joe Pool web site, but it is always better, in my opinion ,to ask you folks for that little extra a web site does not include. I am curious about this "jaws" bass they have out there. Sounds like she has become a bit of a local legend, I wonder if she has ever been caught ?

Thanks again for the replies, and if by some strange sort of first timer luck I catch this jaws while crappie fishing, I will put her back so the legend can continue wink

one of the guys had some bass lures with him and tried to catch her. he did get her to bite but the bass spit the lure as fast as it hit the lure. i would bet that bass is over 10 pounds. it looked huge and it was 3 feet under the water. i use to fish there every day last year and that was the only time i ever saw that fish. one huge trash fish
