Thanks Eric
I assume then they count the distance of the main leader and all the branch leaders of it and add them all up for the record longest strike.
I got rid of weatherbug, too much of a drain on resources and wunderground.com way better for showing direction of each cell and size of hail in them.
I'll give WWW.SRH.NOAA.GOV a shot too, thanks !

Texas Sage,

You worked at the old Padre Island International Airport too there off of Boca Chica Blvd and Minnesota Dr in Brownsville? I interned at that old NWS office in the early 90s, and even when they built the new building off of Boca Chica there near the Fed Ex/UPS hangers.

Did plenty of fishing (especially Fall and at night at Port Isabel Pier...especially if I worked evenings til midnight) for specks and for some Reds at daybreak at the jetty on the island. Loved it. My wife and I had just gotten married and she thought I was nutz, coming home with fish when she was headin' to teach in the morning.

By the way, my mother likes to go to LL Barge and I occasionally go to meet her, especially in the cool season, since I don't have a boat. That makes about 3 or 4 folks so far. Need more for the tour. I may settle for a minimum of 8 folks.

David,

Yeah, we use wunderground.com sometimes for climate questions we get that we don't have the data for here at the office. Nice site. Think you'll find our site informative and complete for your fishing needs.

Agree that Weatherbug was just a CPU-hog and being my own meteorologist, I didn't need that frilly stuff and wasn't going to support some money-makin' private vendor. I trust and know our folks that I work with . I know their capabilities and knowledge on our climate and forecasts. Are we always right, heck no, but that's the nature of the bizness. No meteorologist is (private, NWS, or media).

Hope my post helped clear some things up. Good luck.

Hey Eric
Is there any way to remove the ground clutter from the Dyess radar ? It looks like it's always raining around there now !

David,

Got your mail. Though we show KDYX (Dyess AFD near Abilene) on our webpage, it is maintained by the USAF (airforce/DOD), just like Granger (KGRK) is in central TX near Georgetown.

We do the clutter suppression for KFWS (Ft Worth) and KGRK, but KDYX is monitored by the San Angelo office and that radar (like most DOD-owned radars), has maintenance issues.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that these radars put out poorer quality of data. Wish us (the NWS) owned them, cause our techs at least know what the hell they're doing.

I'm actually the radar program manager here at the Ft Worth office, and believe when I say, DOD is hard to deal with regarding non air-weather radars.

Alright, outside of HogHuntr (more on the bass/white bass forums) and a few others, this is "last call for alchohol" as they say in the bars at 2 am.

Write me at my email if you're interested in the 2 dates above (pick which one you prefer, one's a Sunday, the other a Monday). Sounds like I could get up to 5-7 folks now with a few replies i've received.

Give me your "final" vote on date (likely between 5-6 pm).

Again, please only post for the tour. I'll be glad to answer weather questions in my personal email, but want to leave this post open for those interested in the tour. Thank you.

Forgot to mention that when a date/time has been decided upon, i'll post it as a new thread, in case any "stragglers" decide to want to show.
