How well do the side imaging units show creek channels? I am hoping the unit will show the bends in the creek so I can scan an area quick. I can see from all the images online that the units show brush well but you do not see many images of creeks or ditches. I do not know anyone with side imaging so I am hoping to get the information from fellow TFF members before I spend 2k. Thanks.

You can see them well once you learn what you're looking at.

I've got an older unit, 987 HB that does an excellent job of showing creek channels. Actually, i think it's Ronnie's old unit. When I get home I'll see if I've got any pics on my unit to upload, if not i'll get some tomorrow.

very well defined Well except on Lavon, lol. Here's a snapshot of a creek channel on a lake that isn't all silted in You can see the old river channel running right up to the old bridge running right to left.

I'm very seriously considering buying a side imaging myself also. An honest opinion, is it really worth the cost? The images look great.

I was really impressed with how well the SI shows creeks and the bends in the creeks. Brushpiles and underwater bridges look neat also. It is an awesome unit. Yes, they are worth the money.
The only draw back to them is the neck ache you get from watching the screen looking at all the stuff down there for so long. LOL

Depending on your setup--its worth the money. I haven't been a big fan of the HB 2D, but the new Fire Fox software will really enhance the returns. I think you will find alot of guys running two units at the console, HB for the side scan and Lowrance for the 2D. The HB units quit reading at 5mph. You'll need to add a High Speed Ducer to make the 2d read faster than that.Lowrances Structure Scan will be available in a couple of months, but you'll need an HDS unit to make it work. i saw that 3 Rivers Marine will sell the Structure Scan for $579 +-, normal retail will about $699.
