You are gonna get various opinions on this. I have 6'6 and 7 ft MH rods, the both work for me. I also run the big game 20#

MH should serve you fine. I kinda partial to 7ft rods also, expecially when im slabbing. I had a couple H action, and didnt care for them.

I'd go with 7 foot rods in the medium heavy action. I have both the 6'6" and 7' foot rods. I tend to use my 6'6" rods more for live bait fishing and throwing baits that are 3/4 oz. and up. My 7' foot rods tend to be used with baits up to 3/4 oz. and throwing flukes or soft baits. When trolling use the shorter ones fishing behind the boat and longer ones for outside the boat. Let me add all this gear is spinning tackle.

cool looks like ill be picking up some 7 foot mh action rods.....
everyone using bait cast or spinning? I was going to use baitcasters since I already have some that will hold plenty of line but if spinning is better I may pick up some of those...

I would use the 7ftMH, both Ugly stiks and Jarvis Walker tough tips are both strong and fiberglass rods. You can get the tough tips @ academy for around $20 with cork handles. I also use them for kittys. Not real sensitive but with stripers or kittys it's not really necessary.

i suggest using the same rods you would use for bass, say a good swim bait rod, or crankbait rod. i prefer high end ,though its not imperative.. it helps. light and sensitive is always a bonus when doing a lot of chunkin and windin.. my favorite rig is a 7ft mh st croix matched w a revo S. i dont think you need anything better than that for hyb's, stripers, or sandies.

I would but I use 12 lb flouro on all my rods except my Jig rod...thats why I was wanting to have a couple cheaper rods with 20lb mono on them already rigged with slabs

Bait fishing - Ugly Stick 7'-8' Medium, Spinning or Baitcast
Slabbing 3/4 oz to 1.5 oz slab - Good quality Med 6.5' baitcast. 7 ft rod for slabbing wears my arm out after a long day.
Slabbing 2 oz+ - Good quality Med Hvy 6.5' baitcast
Swim baits - Good quality baitcast, 7' - 7.5', Med - Med Hvy baitcast.
Dead Sticking - Very high quality (super sensitive) 6.5' - 7', Med - Med Hvy baitcast. The bite can be almost undetectable at times so you need all the sensitivity you can get.
I like to use 20-30 lb super braid with a flourocarbon leader. Very sensitive.
The round Abu's are great for bait and slabbing, but for chunking swim baits I like the low profile reels i.e. Revos.

I use a 15' cane pole with kite string. That way when I get them to the surface I can smack the [censored] outta them and drag them in the boat. No fuss...no muss! Total investment is about 13 bucks. lol
