We are having a guy's getaway and are thinkinking about going to Port A. Is that a good time to come for fishing? If so what should we target. We will probably go out on a charter trip one day and will probably bring our bass boats and fish bay area the rest of the time. Any suggestion and info will be highly appreciated. Have never bay fished before and on been 56 miles out once before. I need to know what type of tackle to bring. I have some abu garcia reels on 7 to 8ft rods.

that time of year you will want to focus on surf fishing for reds, and then hit the all the outlets as the shrimp migration should start along with the flounder pre migration depending on cold weather or lack there of.

Hit the surf and deep channel edges for reds. Use live finger mullet for bait on the bottom on a Carolina rig with 4/0 or 5/0 circle hook and a 1oz egg sinker above your leader. 40/50 lb mono leader should be fine.

Now, unless you got an alum. or galvanized trailer I'd think real hard before you stick in the salt. Won't hurt the boat but your elec. connections aren't sealed to keep out salt and everything will corrode. You can kiss a steel trailer goodbye. Especially if has any nicks in the paint.

I generally have my best luck catching reds in the hour before dawn. If they're biting you'll limit out in an hour or two.

The surf is the beach front. Do not confuse the beach front with an inland or bay "beach". They're not the same. Beach=open ocean.

+1 on the salt doing a number on the steel trailers... I've had my aluminum CC and its steel trailer in the bays around Port A twice now, and I've had the pleasure of nearly totally rebuilding the trailer. It was worth the brain damage to me, though. I'm pretty certain that the poor trailer will be dunked in saltwater again a few more times before it falls apart.
