I have lived here in Texas 10 years now, and although I am primarily a bass fisherman, I have not caught One crappie since I moved down here. Couldn't sleep and started thinking a good crappie fish fry sounded real good. Where is the best place to go to catch some? I live in Fort Worth if that helps.

Howdy Pardner, I live in Fort Worth too. I have been going to Tin Top on the Brazos, it's an easy 45 minute drive West on 20. I know people are catching crappie there because when they come in they like to hold up their stringers so their buddys can see what they caught. There is a series of docks on the opposite side of the river from where the launch is and that is one place where they are catching them. Sanchez Creek comes into the river about 1/2 mile upstream from the launch and that's a good spot too. There is another creek that comes in downstream too that looks good but I don't know the name of it. Not sure what this rain is going to do but sure would like to find out. Good luck wherever you go.

Thanks for the replies. Where is this Tin Top and is it a river or lake? Do I need my boat or should i buy one of those long poles? Help me out, I'm a lousy bass fisherman and an even worse crappie fisherman.

Well I don't know if they make a pole that will reach all the way across the river but if they do it's gonna be mighty heavy cause the river is about 50 yards wide there. I would deffinately take a boat if I had one. Need a really good deckhand? Any ultralight rig will work if you find the fish. Read the message about Lake Granbury because that's where the river ends up about 6 miles downstream from Tin Top. Guys have been cleaning up on the crappie in the creeks on Granbury using a slip bobber above a jig and on shiners too.

It isn't North Texas but you can't beat IMHO Toledo Bend. The daily limit there is 50 insteed of 25 and for good reason it's full of crappie. Here are some resent pictures from one afternoon and the next mourning.

Crappie lakes are sorta like women.....I never met one I didn't like.
Nearly all lakes have crappie. Pick one, learn it well, and it'll be your favorite.

I agree with Guy. Just pick a body of water and fish it. I started on Grapevine when I lived out there and learned were some of the good spots were. I then moved out to Forney and fished Hubbard, Lavon & Tawokini. I now mainly stick to Lavon and can find crappie all year if needed. I read the forum all the time and get tips from these great folks. Now if we could just get some rain, I might be able to get my boat wet!!!!

If you research some of Guy Skinner and Ernest Paty's posts, you will find Grapevine to be awesome!(Boat fishing)!
Papa Peck posts some pics from Lewisville that are hard to argue with!(Trying to keep you close to FW)
Lots of guys swear by RayBob, north of Denton!
I have 15 pages of pics, 90 percent of them from White Rock Creek, White Rock Lake and Bachman Lake in dallas, that keep me going back for crappie for the last 25 yrs or so1
The Cedar Creek crowd swear by that lake, and I have a hard time disagreeing, cause everytime I go, I am amazed by the consistently HUGE size of those slabs!
Fishin'Clyde and a few others have had incredibly good fortunes at Marine Creek Lake in FW,
Over the years, have seen some really impressive reports on here about Lake Arlington.
In other words, "Pick one, Flip a coin, AND PRAY!"
Good Luck to ya!
