The prop on our boat spun a hub today at Lake LBJ ... at the complete opposite end of the lake from where we were staying. No impact, no nothing -- just spun out while we were cruising along at 30 mph.

We had to almost idle back to our cabin, which was about 16 miles upriver from where the hub spun out. Anything over about 1100 RPM/4.5 mph and the hub would spin. Took about 3 hours to get back to the resort while being hammered by swarms of jetfleas and wakeboard boats.

Got back to the cabin, shut the boat off and tied it up, and it would not start again to go on to the trailer. Handloaded it then parked on a downhill to pull the eye up to the roller.

I *hope* the plugs just got fouled from all of that low-speed, low-RPM usage. I haven't yanked them yet to clean them. I flooded it badly enough trying to start it that I had raw gas and oil coming out the exhaust when we pulled the boat out of the water.

Could I have hurt the motor driving it at such low RPM for a long time? No buzzers or alarms went off, and it seemed to be running fine right up until I cut it off.

That shouldn't have killed your motor, change the plugs and see what happens.

If that killed your engine. I better watch out, I idle and up to 1400 for hours trolling offshore........

lol ... thanks. I'm going to pull the plugs in a minute here. I've been out cleaning LBJ lake scum off the boat. That place is just nasty all around.

Well, I just went out and hooked it up the hose, pumped the bulb, and the motor started right up on the first turn of the key. I did not need to remove and clean the plugs.

My motor has done this a few times -- it sometimes does not want to start again when it is hot. Any idea what could cause that?

In my experience, the most common cause of hard warm start is worn carb float valves, you get a little gas leaking past into the cylinders when you shut it off, floods the motor. Carb rebuild with new kits will fix that.

I just had the carbs rebuilt with new kits 30 hours ago (last year). I hope it's not that.

remember when hooked to hose there is no load on the motor, like in the water and I'm sure you know, but don't run it above idle on hose..
