Hi,
I'm new to this forum and figured this would be a good place to ask this question.

So anyways, I am trying to decide if I should go to Lake Baccarac or Lake El Salto.
I have been doing research and I have read great reports for both lakes just not sure which would be better.
Has anyone been to either lake recently, or have any comments? Thanks

Ok I think I'm going to go to el salto. Has anyone had any experience with pro bass adventures?
I just spoke with Doug king the owner and he said they just built a new lodge on the lake.
So I guess it's between pro bass adventures and anglers inn.
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

I only know about Lake Guerrero. I know 15 years ago it was the best bass spot on planet Earth.

before you make your decision please reseach sugar lake in mexico its only about half an hour in from texas and i see monster stringers being caught i'm talking over fifty pounds! its probably not as senic as the other lakes you mentioned. its just as good as falcon or better. sometimes this website gives you fishing reports on sugar its called tackleandrods.com. i have never been to sugar but i hear great things about it. a guide named jim edwards knows that lake well. he guides a lot on falcon too. jim has a website as well with the latest fishing reports on falcon and sugar. you can just google his name for his website. hope that helps.

Been to Anglers Inn, Very nice operation! I Prefer Lake Baccarac over El Salto, bigger fish. Lake Baccarac Lodge was having some %30 discounts.

Mr. King is a good guy, and he runs a very good operation on both Baccarac and El Salto.

And I would not be doing my job if I did not put my name in the hat. I am one of the partners of Trophy Bass Lodge on Lake Huites. I have been on the TFF for years, I live in Sherman and am in the truck business.

WHen your talking Mexico, there are five main players as far as Lakes. El Salto, Huites, Comodero, Baccarac, and Aqua Milpa. I am sure there will be those that disagree with me, but here is my take. Aqua Milpa has been off the scene for a couple years. Fishing has not been stellar, and I just don't hear much out of it anymore. Baccarac has been a big fish lake, but something happened last year and it fished terrible. It went from unbelievable to really poor in a matter of a few weeks. It had something to do with the floods there I suppose. It will be interesting to see how it does once the season fires up this year. Like most lakes in Mexico, this lake can produce some big fish.

Comodero is a beautiful, awesome fishery. Unfortunately, the netting on the lake has kept it from producing staggering numbers of huge fish. Still a great destination, not much in the way of good lodges on the lake though.

El Salto had some phenominal years 1998-2002, then settled down a few years, and then 2006 and 2007 were off. Then last year it turned around and had a very solid year. I am not aware of any issues that would prevent or cause an offyear for 2009-2010.

Then there is my lake, Huites. Huites, built in 1995, was the big hit in Mexico from 1999-2002. It was off the charts for both quantity and quality. Then they pulled the lake down 60 feet in four days back in 2003, and it really affected the lake. It stayed muddy and the fishing was really poor for a couple of seasons. Each year has got better and better, and last season was incredible. Huites in my opinion offers some things other lakes dont: Both numbers and quality. Average 100+ fish per boat per day, with 20 over 5 pounds and fish up to 15 pounds each year. It is the most beautiful bass fishing destination in the world, hands down. It is one of the most remote bass fishing destinations in the world as well, on many days you probably wont see another boat. Our lodge is on the lake, is beautiful and comfortable. We are more of a boutique lodge, catering to smaller numbers of fishermen that are looking for a more personal, quality experience.

The down side to Huites, there is only one. Getting there. It is a 3 hour drive to get to the lake from the airport. But most of our fishermen are more than willing to trade off the travel time for pristine, unbelievably beautiful and world class fishing while on the water.

So, all that said, I would advise you, based on the info above, to go to Huites with us or El Salto with Doug King. If you reserve before August 31st with us(or within a few days of August 31st) you can get an extra day for free. That is 5 nights, 4 days of fishing for $1250.

I have gone on long enough. There are many members on this forum that have been to my lodge, so ask them what their experience has been. Heck if you want to go down with me, I usually pick a few dates going into the season and invite people to join me.

Hope this helps!
Brett

Let me add my two cents. What Brett said is right on target. My best year on El Salto was 2005 and it hit a wall. Now it's back to producing lot's of nice fish. If anyone is paying attention, the Mexican lakes normally do very well 3 years after a hurricane comes through. I know Doug King has built a new lodge on El Salto and it appears to look like a great place. I have also seen his boats on the lake which are very nice. There a a number of lodges on El Salto and they all have their benefits. I am going to try Doug's lodge soon.

I cannot comment on Huites, as I have not fished it.....yet. Comedero and Mateos are other lakes I frequent. I stayed with the Luebkers on Comedero and they run a very nice lodge. Good folks from Arkansas! Nice Tracker 17 footers as well. Mateos is a nice spinnerbait lake and beautiful to boot. Billy Chapman has built a great lodge on the river there.

For non-stop action, I would talk to Brett or Doug, nothing against any of the other lodges, but I have been fishing Mexico long enough to know that these two guys will give an honest report. For what it's worth, I have always stayed at Chappy's place and love it, but ready to make a few new friends. I know that when Baccarac hit the rocks last year, Doug was redirecting clients to better producing waters. That IMO shows they are putting the client first.

Take a look at www.wildwinghunts.com Lake Mateos is on fire right now. They have a new lodge, new boats, English speaking guides and you don't have to bring your rods and reels. Tell them I had you to call for your TFF discount.

I've fished all the major Mexican lakes over the past 20 years, and currently I would only consider the following for the best possible experience:

El Salto - lots of action on quality 5 to 8 lb fish with frequent 9 to 14 lb fish mixed in.

Baccarac - best lake in the world for numbers of 10+ lb fish. Numbers were sporadic last season, but lots BIG fish!

Contact Pro Bass Adventures for El Salto or Baccarac 480 491 9300 or 866 FISHMEX (www.mexicofishing.net)....Hands down the best operation on both of these lakes. They take great care of you, feed you like a king, and fish from Ranger boats at Salto. They built a new lodge on the lake last season and are offering some great incentives for the upcoming season. I'm going back to Salto in October for more of the action we experienced in May...incredible fishing for numbers and size,

Huites - produced good numbers of quality fish last season. Beautiful scenery. Contact Trophy Bass Lodge for the best experience on this lake.

Thanks for the kind words Brett, El Grande, and Pescadero.

We can't wait to open back up in October, after the heat and rainy season subside. It should be a great season for the west coast Mexican trophy lakes.

El Salto continues it's major comeback and is once again producing tons of 5 to 8 lb fish, along with frequent 9 to 12's, and several over 14 lbs before we closed for the Summer in July. We opened our brand new lakeside lodge on our existing El Salto property last season and our clients are loving it. With our Ranger boats just steps away from your room, excellent food, drink, and hospitality...we offer the best overall experience and value on El Salto.

To make things even better and to help anglers experience our new lakeside accommodations, we are offering a great incentive this season. For the same price as our standard 4 night/3 day all inclusive package, you can stay an extra night and fish an extra day FREE...that's 5 nights and 4 full days fishing for the price of our standard 4N/3D pkg! If you can't fish 4 days, give me a call and I'll make you a great deal on a 4N/3D pkg. I honestly believe that this will be one of the best seasons we have seen at El Salto in 6+ years...and I know that many others agree.

Baccarac continues to pump out the monsters, and after last year's high water and shad explosion, the numbers should return to "normal" this Fall...and for those of you who have fished it, you know how mind blowing it can be with 80-100 fish days, combined with all of the double digit toads, and legitimate shots at fish over 15 pounds on any given day.

Give me a shout or email me anytime if you have questions, need more information, want to talk about dates and availability, or want updated, no BS, fishing reports.

Look for our upcoming TV shows with Hank Parker and In-Fisherman TV!

Best regards,

Doug
