This past week I fish the FLW Series at Dardanelle as a Co-Angler. While fishing was terrible, I was ablt to speak with my pros and gain quite a bit of info and knowledge. On day 2 I had the pleasure of drawing legendary fisherman and crankbait efficionado David Fritts, who is one of my favorites. I myself am a crankbait fool, and was thrilled to be able to pick his brain. We had a long conversation about rod and real set up, and how he came about the design of the Rapala DT series crankbaits and his cranking rods and reals. The biggest item leanred is he still throws MONO and refuses to got to fluorocarbon. He then began to list a long list of his reasons for the preference. I initially thought he was just old school and did not want to change, but he then spoke of how they tested the design of his DT cranks in a tank wit both lines and he just got a better action out of the mono, and statistically there was minimal to no gain in depth with with the fluorocarbon. He also stated he has been offered sponsorships to use it and he still refuses, and believes it costs him more fish (through break offs) then it helps. Anyways, I had a great time with my 3 pros for the week and encourage everyone to go one time if they can.

what works for some, doesnt work for others. each person is different. for me, fluoro is not over rated.

I agree, it was just interesting to hear a seasoned pros opinion.

What a great opportunity you had to ask questions of one of the best crank bait fishermen out there. That's good info.
As far as fluoro goes, I use it for plastics and jigs where I do think it offers an advantage in feel over mono. For just about everything else I go with mono. I don't agree that fluoro is overrated.

I watched kevin short say that the mono floats so the crankbait will not go as deep in fishing real shallow water but he prefers fluro most of the time.

This was from his win this year

I haven't been very impressed with it for crankbait fishing BUT for deepwater T-Rig it is a very good choice between Mono and Braid. I have found times that the fish would not mess with Braid but the Mono just had too much stretch in 30' of water. The Fluoro works pretty good. It's like all things- It has a place and purpose.

I can see it with crankbaits. But, as mentioned each to his own. I perfer it for most of my other applications.

Flourocarbon cost me $700 in a little tournament on Conroe yesterday. No way I get broke off on the same pound test mono. The problem with Flouro is it breaks in the knot. I used Seagar InvisX. It's supposed to have the best strenght in the knot. The fish broke 17# in the knot like it was 10# mono.

I am done with it. I did like the smaller diameter because it allows you do crank deeper but that's not getting me back to spooling another reel with it.
