carp/sunfish

trash/bait

Yea i went to the grocery store today and the guy that took our groceries out saw my rods in my truck and ask what i was fishing for. When i told him i was fishing for carp his eyes got big and said " Waaaaaa?!?! Carp?!?!? why they hell would you want to fish for those nasty things?!?". I chuckled to myself and drove away smiling, it doesn't bother me that most people don't like catching carp just means there are more for me.

imagine if bluegills got 20+ lbs, i bet they would be a blast to catch, they fight pretty hard for their size!

I had one of these conversations with another older fella in one of my classes at school. He commented on my sunburn, which led to a fishing discussion. He asked what I fish for, and when I told him, he wrinkled his nose and said, "Why? If I'd catch those, I'd just throw it on the bank to die. Why would you want to fish for those?!?" I asked him, "Have you ever caught one?" and he said no. I told him if he had, he wouldn't ask why I fished for them and left it at that. IMO, it's not worth getting upset with people with this attitude, you probably aren't gonna change such a deeply ingrained mindset anyway. Just showing how much fun we have pursuing these fish is the best thing we can do.

And I agree with Big Buff...pound for pound I bet sunfish are near the top of the fight spectrum. Great fun on ultra-light tackle!

I usually tell those folks, it's because they're one of the hardest fighting fish in all of Texas, they'll fight as hard as hybrids and they're a lot easier to fish for from the bank!

Man that is just amazing, ya'll still have people that actually bring the groceries out to the car for ya. I haven't seen a store do that in a long time.

Happens all the time. I tell them thanks, but no thanks, it helps to not be a complete jerk.

Man fish a stock tank that has some monster Blue Gill in it. I use a Bettle Spin on an ultra lite with 4lb line. Great fighters and you would think that you had a nice bass on the way they fight. Also use a 15ft. modern day CANE pole. (made of fiberglass) Every now and then get a big ol' bass on there too.
