A friend and I went out to fork under the 154 bridge. We caught a decent amount of crappie. About 3 hours into it the sandbass starting going crazy because of the shad being brought in my our lites. As soon as the sandies came the crappie left, or so it seemed. [img] [/IMG]

Slim it is becomeing a regular occurence lately, I know all the bar fish(yellow bellies) but these are true white bass. There has been some pic posted on the bass page a few times.I think guide richie white has (maybe the record) It is true that they didn't stock them but you know how that goes. Tawakoni is just down the road and full of them.Between the ducks and the other birds those eggs stick to there feet and here we go, a whole new breed is born.

Folks, Lake Fork is built on a tributary to the Sabine River and the Sabine River has plenty of Sandies in it. You all know about how they run up stream in the early spring for the spawn. No doubt these fish have always been in the lake but are just now gaining enough dam locked population to become more common. I caught a sandie from fork way back in 1996. I used to live in Hawkins, Tx. and Fork was my usual fishing hole. I do know the difference between the barfish (yellow bass) and the sandies (white bass).

I live on private Lake Cherokee impounded in 1949 on a tributary of the Sabine River. White bass started showing up here after the floods of early nineties. Speculation is they swam up the spillway. There is a very healthy population of them today and we catch them quite often now. I just hope the shad population can sustain them without hurting the black bass population. Any thoughts?
