I'm not old enough to need a fishing license but my dad goes with me but doesn't actually fish. Does he need a fishing license ?

Technically No.. but prob better that he just gets one.. save the headache of trying to explain that he wasnt fishing..

Side note... How old are you?? I see you posting all the time and just thought you were older..

I would say yes, for safety sake. Always cheaper to buy a license than it is to pay the fine and then have to buy a license anyway. just my opinion though.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way you are a mile away, AND you have their shoes.

He rarely touches any tackle unless he's helping me carry some.

We were in OK a few years ago fishing and it was the only time I have been asked to see my licence and all the guys that were fishing had one. One of my buddies had his GF with him and she was not fishing but she got a OK souvenir in the form of a GW's ticket.Maybe she could have talked to a judge but it was not worth going back to OK for a court date so they paid it. I dont know if a game warden is going to believe your ole man is not fishing.Think about it,if a guy was fishing without a license and got caught he would probably say he was just tagging along with his son. Im not saying that is the case with you guys it is just the first reaction from a GW who has probably come across this before.

Well I normally keep both of my rods right next to me , he's usually not even within reaching distance of them.

You can make all the excuses you want to the game warden but he will probably give him a ticket and let the judge deal with whether or not he was really fishing.
Game wardens hear the "I was just tagging along" excuse all the time, I am sure.

It's only $33 online so I'll probably get it there.

If he is sitting at the lake with fishing tackle around
it wouldn't look good, I may be pulling a water skier
but with a boat full of tackle if stopped I would bet
they would ask to see my license.
