Yep, I think you're right on the routine thing but I'm still considering half-sinking her the first outing, pay tribute to the gods and get it over with...LOL!

The fighters would come over at tree-top level(that was scary enough); you'd see them for an instant and then two seconds later when they were completely out of site the full-throttle scream of their engines would knock you down...I bet the pilots got a kick out of that. Funny mix, pristine fishing on a gorgeous pine covered Michigan river while you were constantly picking yourself up and emptying your pants. Don't remember how many times I was just casting while daydreaming one minute, and the next thing I knew I was on my knees in turtle position making a pack with God.

Twenty years with the lady? Nice.

Yup, I enjoyed my years up there. Did a lot of fishing and hunting there. BTW, this coming Monday will actually be 24 years married. So, we've been "together" about 27 years. smile

I launched my boat with the plug in the livewell drain instead of the hull. Never listen to your buddy when he says he put the plug in. I took a different approach. I jumped in the water and put the plug in. I then sat there for 10-15 minutes waiting for the bilge pump to pump the water out of my boat. It was a little less frantic but I still looked like an idiot. I now leave a couple of extra plugs in the splash well.

Personally, I dont see the use in pulling them out every time unless your boat leaks......
Enlighten me......

To make sure there is no water in the hull for any reason. Plus it can be a hint to a possible problem with live well hoses, etc.

When I took my Fisher out for the first time (new to me), I went to activate the trolling motor and the base popped out on me as well. I was so upset. Took it back to the dealer. They had it for two weeks, treated me like I was dirt, then told me it was fixed. Took it out again, and the same thing happened. I'm not going to name the dealer that I bought the boat from and had issues with, but once they made the sale, I was nothing but chowder to them. I dropped a lot of CASH for my boat (didn't finance), and that was the thanks that I got. In the end, I took the boat to Tex-All boat company in Selma. I will gladly say their name because they have ALWAYS treated me and my boat with the utmost respect. I've never had a problem with them and they always kept me up to date. Turn around time was super quick, but they get busy like any other place. Anyway, that was my bad luck story.

I left my drain plug out of my Sea Pro one time and had to do the same get-the-boat-back-on-the-trailer-scramble. Man, I could not believe how long it ook to drain all of that water out!!!!

Be safe,

My very first bass boat was an old Dyna-Trak. The first time I take it out fishing, I step down into the boat and I'm up to my ankles in water. So thinking this isn't good, I try to start the engine to head back in, and when I turn the key a fuse blows and now I'm stuck. Luckily I was able to hard wire the blown fuse and get in before I sank!

Been there... done that. Swear that bilge pump ran for an hour before it got the water out. I dived over the side, plug in hand praying I wouldn't drop it before I got it set in the hole.

You only make this mistake once.
