I was in Wal-mart this evening and found a brand new in the box (clam shell actually) Diawa SC100 spincast reel with no price on it and laying on the display shelf by itself. I took it up to the counter and the clerk scanned it and said "how about $7.00". Well I said sold and do you have anymore? No more to be found. Got it home and this is a well built reel; mostly all metal parts and very smooth drag and antireverse, etc. Was this a good deal or are these reels any good or what? I'm gonna keep it and try it out tomorrow at Ray Roberts! Diawa used to make some fine reels. Anybody know about what this reel normally sells for? Thanks for any help!

I used the new reel out at Ray Roberts tuesday and caught afew sandbass with it. It worked great but be sure to turn the drag up enough to slow down a good sandy cause one took off with my line and I had a time gettin him in the boat. I'd like to get another one of these reels for $7.00 if anyone knows of a Wal-mart that still has some on closeout? They're usually $24.95 at BPS but they are too high on most of their products, so good old Wal-mart is hard to beat!

I'll go you one better. At the local wal-mart, I found in their display case an ultralight Penn Spinning reel out of the box. I asked what they wanted for it, and the girl scanned it and said "$15.00" SOLD!! I coupled it with a $20 ultralight rod they had on sale for $5. I looked up the reel online....$70 everywhere I checked! I confirmed this today in Academy, where they had the exact reel for $69. A $90 rig for $20. The fishing gods are smiling....
