I am kinda curious as to what ya'll think. I know some people will only throw one or two lures all day and some ADD people who switch up without a bite in 5 casts.

I dont have a very extensive collection of bass gear, so i am usually tossing a worm. I probably have 30 different colors but I have two that have produced 90% of my fish. Watermelon lizard and 7in electric grape worm. I have a bad habit of trying something new for about 10 minutes and gettin pissy and changing back to one of those two.

So how long should i toss a particular color/lure before it is safe to assume the fish dont like it?

Hmm well that brings up another question for me then... If you throw a t-rigged worm for half hour to an hour without a bite, is changing the color the best option? or should i look at changing bait style all together? When they dont want a worm i am usually SOL, i think i have 4 crank baits, a spinner and couple rattletraps and a spoon!

Do you think that if you fish a certain color t rigged and get nothing, would it be worth trying a c rig with the same color? Does the presentation change enough to make up want it?

If they wont hit the lure on a texas rig i dont believe they will hit it on a carolina rig. They might hit it better on one or the other but i highly doubt they will completely leave one alone and hit the other much better.

to me color is the second part of a pattern, change rigs first then find what they bite, then start trying to refine the pattern with diff, colors

That is exactly what I was going to say, Cody. To me, the first part is figuring out the bait; in terms of style, size and action. The color factor is the variable that is adjusted to increase the number and frequency of your bites, as well as HOW WELL the fish are eating it.

And then there are times when the little green suckers just aren't interested in biting anything, or so it seems, try as you may, and regardless of how many different baits and colors you throw at them. This morning was one of those times....three hours and one fish.

Cody and Steven nailed it.

You go with colors that match the conditions, season and available forage/ match the hatch. Depending on what depth I'm marking fish and bait I tie on several types of baits that target fish at that depth. You have to get a working pattern then refine the colors and bait size/ type for best results.

One thing we all need to be tuned into is light levels.. if a color is working well when it's Cloudy or early then it gets Bright or Visa Verse you may need to adjust colors for best results.

Stay with what you like or you will be buying everything on the shelf. Keep it simple. It needs to be green or shad color.
