I just wondering since I missed the spawn at my local lake, what do most crappie do after the spawn? I've been working on my boat since Febuary and should be done in a couple more weeks, so I will have time to continue my persuit on the elusive crappie. Any patterns would be great.

Thanks

Are you sure that you have missed the spawn on your lake? It is pretty much in full swing, if not just on the bubble for most other North Texas lakes.

I think someone told him this information, so they can catch all the fish.

Lol, No I was out there about 3 weeks ago in a favorite creek with steep banks and brush everywhere, and caught a few. Went out there last Friday with the nieghbor and it was like ghost town, no bites, no other people fishing, and water temp had risin to 75 degress. Last time it was 63.8 degress. They may stil be there, I dunno maybe just a bad day for it.

Head out to another part of the lake with some shallow water and vegetation along the banks...I bet you'll catch the fish you are looking for wink

I think you may still find some like Duck said around the grass in like 4'-8' water. However I caught some last weekend over brush in 18'-25' water. The brush was about 10'-15' deep.

I say they are in both locations.

Usually you can catch them in the shallow water (6' or so) all the way through May most years.

crappie-fan,
To answer your question; after I know the spawn is over confused , I will look for crappie on the first break line adjacent to the bank. Usually I'm looking for it to have about 3-5 foot of water on top and drop off to 6-8 feet. Last year I caught a ton of crappie in post-spawn this way.
