I need to buy a few live bait rigs for Hybrids and Catfish. I don't want to spend an awful lot, but I also want something that will work well. Does anyone have a recommendation?

i bought 15 okuma 8'6" steelhead rods on ebay. Got them for a little less than $15 each. Then got 8 penn 9m reels from all american outdoors for $43 each. Best bang for my buck.

I ust 7 ft flipping rod with Abu reels or simular with lot of
line capacity, Work well. Use the same rods for slabbing with
a low profile baitcast reel.

I would highly recommend the Jarvis Walker 7' rods (#TTC 701M @ Academy) and a reconditioned Abu Garcia 6000-6500 round reel from Southwestern Parts & Service.

I can't say enough about either product.

I use a okuma MA20DX (click) for trolling and live bait and slab fishing.
(I've bought them for about $30.00-$35.00)

I match it up with a cheap $11-$12 rod from Academy.

I've caught lots of fish with this rig

ABU and a Eagle Claw Yellow fiberglass rod. This rod has no sensitivity but is bullet proof and works well as a live bait rod put in a rod holder..

Abu 6500's are the gold standard for live bait hybrid/stripers.
As far as rods go , if they are not going to be used for
any other purpose , ugly sticks work just fine.

If you want some thing that will do double duty for light saltwater, go with an Abu 7000.
