Since I cannot get enough members to show up to tournaments I have decided that I want to put together a open tournament. I would like to do a Take A Wounded Soldier Fishing tournament down here in SA. Right now I would like to see how many people would be interested in this has there will be a need for boats. The boat owner will be paired with a soldier from BAMC or the Fisher House. Most likley this will be held at Choke Canyon. I would also make an attempt to get the SA Spurs involved. Thanks for your inputs.

Yes here in San Antonio, there are 4 bases. Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Fort Sam-Houston, and Camp Bullis.

What dates are you looking at? I could help with a boat if there is no conflict with my tourny schedule. also might be able to get a few other boats

Champowner

We have found one of the best ways to get boaters for service members is.. Contact your local bass clubs and have them sponsor a club event to take Active and Retired Military members fishing.

Once most clubs host an event they make it an annual thing.
Many club members are prior or retired military.. they will go out of their way to help Active and Wounded Warriors. cheers

Thanks for the information. Right now I am just seeing how many people would like to get involved, because I would like to turn this into an annual event. I would like to do it the middle of next month. I am going to make some phone calls tomorrow. Thanks again.

Here is a idea...

How bout put together a list of potential military people that want to fish and we get volunteers to be paired up with them and turn this into a thing like BIG BROs-BIG SISs kind of thing but it involves fishing?

Instead of a tourney that last one day you begin long time friendships between fishermen-women.

This would take up some time but I know I would volunteer my time for this kind of program for sure! I live and work in San Antonio and I am always looking for a way to give back!

Tourneys are just a lot more work and not to mention more pressure on the angler and money put up for the tourney. But a relaxing day on the water is what we do everyday we fish outside of tourneys. We just enjoy the day more without all that pressure and I can go on multiple fishing trips for what it takes to enter one tourney.

You can still have a tourney but maybe its just a gathering of fishing buddies you met while in the program... You just need a good name for it like... Fishin' Buddies

Just a thought. If you need help doing some things PM me I have tons of time to give.

Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

Like Skeeter151 said a "relaxing day on the water" would be a little more suiting I think. My wife is my fishing partner and there is very few times I hit the water without her. Being a Disabled Vet I have plenty of room on our 19' Carolina Skiff to haul 4 people fishing comfortably for anything from Bass to Catfish. I would also be interested in putting up our boat & time to give back to these heroes. Exclude the Tourney fees and what not and that just means more opportunities to give back to those that have gave up. Keep me posted on this.

That sounds great! To be honest I'm just wanting to get into some coummunity involvment. I am active duty here in SA and do not see much going on between anglers and military. That is why my wife and I created our league. I have talked to a few people that would like to get involved with this. The only reason I wanted to make it a tournament is because I wanted to give all proceeds to something like the Fisher House or another wounded vet program. Anyway thank you for the ideas and lets try to get something going. I will have more time tomorrow to call and see how many troops would like to get involved. Once again Thank you
