Took my wife to RR on Saturday. Fished from 1:30pm until about 5pm. Fished mainly for crappie but looked for whites around 4pm. Only caught two crappie and a couple largmouth bass. All are back in the lake. It was nice to be with my wife without the boys for a while, but I wish the fishing would have been better. We probably should have gotten an earlier start, but my older son had a T-Ball game at 10am. We fished primarly in Johnson Branch along the west back and in any pockets with brush and grass.

Fishing was off for crappie at Ray Roberts today. I have no idea why. We talked to several and no one was catching fish. Next to the bank, a few feet out, middle of the creek, deep, medium, shallow, minnows, jigs, they just had lock jaw for us and others we talked to today.
I am sure someone boated limits today, but it was not us.

I caught four tonight in about an hour between 7:15 and 8:30. Only one keeper. Caught one in about 10' water on a jig and bobber, 3 ft. down from the bank. Slow reeled a black and charteuse jig for the others. The gentlemen next to me were using minnows and caught 1 crappie, 1 cat and 1 green crappie.

My wife and kids went out Sat and Sun. We got to the lake around 3 and left at dark. We fished up wolf creek in a great little cove on Sat. We saw alot of bass flopping on the banks. We were fishing with minnows and going for crappie, but ended up with a few crappie, a few small catfish, but 2 large bass. Amanda caught the first largemouth right up on the bank. It was about 6-7 lbs. The largest she has ever caught. The second bass was caught by my 4 yr. old on her little Barble pole. I had to bring it in. It was around 3 lbs. On Sun. we went to the back of the lake past the 922 bridge on the west side. We zigzaged our way through the tree stumps and got to the coves out of the wind. We slayed the crappie. Nearly every cast from about 5-8 we caught fish. We threw a minnow and bobber right up into the cover. Bam, they would take it right under. Alot of snags, but it was worth the hassle. To bad we had to go because of darkness. The ride back was very stressful, due to the trees on the way back from there. I'm lucky I didn't hurt my boat. We ended up with some monster slabs. Great weekend on RayRoberts.

Chuck H - We were also out on Raybob on Sunday fighting the wind and looking for shallow crappie although we were off the water by 2:00pm. Which arm of the lake were you up past the 922 bridge? We were up the very most west arm of the lake in the area around the elm fork of the trinity just past the 922 bridge and then moved back down towards the Pecan Creek ramp fishing some of the protected coves. We caught about 20 crappie plus some trash fish. Water temp was around 70 deg near the 922 bridge and 67-68 nearer Pecan Creek Ramp. We caught a few fish VERY TIGHT to the banks in 12" of water but did best (like you) in 5-7' of water just off the banks.

MasterDave, We were up that far on the same place you were on Sunday. We started fishing around 3pm past the 922 bridge on the right side. That cove was out of the wind. We drifted down the bank a couple of times and caught a few right up on the shore like you said. After that, we went around to the cove right before the bridge on the south side. It is very shallow there. The fish were very active right up on the shoreline there. I wish we could have stayed a little longer. We usually stay around the coves around Pecan Creek ramp, but we wanted to see how far up we could go. I'm glad we did. The only problem with going up that far is all the timber. Lots of floating logs. Bring a long pole in case you get stuck to push the boat off. It seemed that most of our crappie were male. There were only a couple of females in our bunch, full of eggs. You're right about them being right up on the shore. If you threw your rig more that a foot from the shoreline cover, you didn't get a bite. We needed to put it right on the edge on the cover. About 6" - 12" from shore. They were under the sticks and small branches. We did lose alot of hooks and bobbers, but it was worth it. We had a great dinner last night. Also, nearly all of the fish were large. We didn't catch one that was under 10", with most between 12" - 15". The males were very dark. I can't wait to get back out there. I don't think that we are going up that far the next time. We are going to try the creek arms over on the west side past 3002. We haven't been over there yet. We have always stayed around the coves on the right side past 3002. I just love Ray Roberts. There are so many places to fish. We are trying to go to a new place each time we get out. Last year at this time, we stayed at the 3002 bridge mostly. We caught alot of fish there, but it got very boring for my wife and kids. Even if we don't catch a fish, there is alot of nature to enjoy.

Wooo Hoooo Man. Sound like ya sleighed em! I read your post and was a bit perplexed....were ya saying that if you came under the 3002 bridge....going north...and then turned left (west) you were fishin up that side? Didn't know there were many coves over that way...do recall a gravel pit lookin area. Is that the area you were slayen em? I was out there with Master Dave that day and we caught em...but we were on the east side near the ramp like you mentioned. Did purdy good, but not like you did. Anyway, doubt we're gettin up there in the next two weeks.... ( so I'm sure we'll miss all the fun. U guys leaf a few for us.

Oh...and I forgot to mention I nearly caught my buddy a new pet....a 4-5 foot water snake. I'm pretty sure he was a water snake...let me think....ummmmm well...lets just say he was a water snake. Caught on a roadrunner, chartruse head, red body, chartruse turbo tail. Fishing shallow...actually out of the water. Hooked him on the second cast...I guess he was being selective. Actually...was just trying to scare him off the log...and he kinda got hooked. I think we all took a collective break from our minds until we saw he wasn't past the barb and was able to wiggle off. looked none too pleased by the experience either.
