Ok. So i have my first boat and motor, and was wondering. What does idle mean on the motor? On the idle button, it has 1-7, also what does the choke button do? On my motor it says Pull Choke. Could anyone enlighten me on these terms? laugh thanks

some consider idle is having the throttle in neutral and the motor is at idle like a car, other times people reference idling as the throttle being in forward position and the motor working at a low rpm causing very little or no wake. ie. you gotta idle around those stumps.

Choke will help the motor start when it is cold. like on a weedeater, lawn mower, etc.

Pull the choke when you are starting the motor for the first time in an hour or more. Pull start the motor or crank it or whatever. It should start easy this way but may not stay on. This is when you put the choke back in and restart.

I assume that this is a little tiller steer motor. The older Johnson's had an idle adjustment in the center just below the top piece of the cowl. I believe that it adjusted the air/fuel mixture to get a smoother idle depending on the atmospheric conditions. At least this is what mine did. If you really want to know post this in the Boats & Motor sections.
